Baramulla: Amid Coronovirus crises, family of warrior against drug addiction Arjumand Majid Bhat – a chemist and social worker killed by unidentified gunmen in Baramulla- is longing for justice and mourning on his first death anniversary.
“This day we lost our beloved brother to the bullets of unknown assailants who killed him in broad day light at his chemist shop in main Chowk Baramulla. We are longing for justice. We don’t even know who killed our brother and there was no breakthrough till now,” said brother of slain chemist Dr. Azhar Majid.
His brutal murder evoked much condemnation on social media by many of his friends and relatives who demanded justice to the family as he left two little daughters and young wife got widowed but there was no headway in the investigation, his brother added.
The family said that at the time of his death he was having face-lifting of his chemist shop in one hand and dream of uprooting drug menace from Baramulla in his eyes. His shop is running now but his dream of eradicating drug menace remains in his eyes as killers shattered it.
“Now -a-days,drug addiction is a very severe problem around the whole world. When you’re addicted, you may not be able to control your drug use and you may continue using the drug despite the harm, it causes. Drug addiction can cause an intense craving for the drug. You may want to quit, but most people find they can’t do it on their own. Not everyone who uses drugs becomes addicted, but for many what starts as casual use, leads to drug addiction,” this was his last face book post of a warrior against drug addiction Arjumand Majid- a chemist, social worker-, telling people that there is a deep rooted drug addiction menace and mafia hell-bent upon destroying the story.

However, little did he know that the unidentified assailants will make the explicit voice silent next day on 30 March 2019? His family would long for justice on his first death anniversary.
Arjumand Majid aka Raju earned a name for himself as a warrior and counselor for drug de-addiction in Barmaulla as there has been sharp increase in the use of heroin and cocaine among youngsters since 2015.
The family demands in-depth probe and justice so that identification of killers is done as nobody claimed responsibility of killing.
“It is responsibility of state and its agencies to provide us justice. People say lot of things on social media but nothing happens on ground as victim families continue to run from pillar to post for justice ,” said another family friend Fayaz Ahmad .
Militants had published his name twice for being an informer,” Baramulla Senior Superintendent of Police Abdul Qayoom had told a news portal, “But he was not one. Anyone who helps the youth or goes to an army camp is not an informer. In all probability, he was killed by militants.”
Police sources said that investigation into the murder of the social activist is going on.
