Independent Candidate Safina Beigh Elected as DDC Chairperson, Sanaullah Parray as vice-Chairperson

BARAMULLA, FEBRUARY 13:

The election for the office bearers of District Development Council (DDC) Baramulla was today conducted smoothly in which independent DDC Member from Wagoora Constituency, Safina Beigh was elected as the DDC Chairperson. The elected chairperson secured 10 votes out of 14 DDC votes while her nearest rival Qurat Bashir, a PAGD candidate secured only 04 votes.

Moreover, DDC Member from Pattan Constituency Sanuallah Parray has been elected as the Vice Chairperson. However, both Sanaullah Parray and his rival Irfan Hafeez Lone, an independent DDC Member from Sangrama Constituency, secured equal number of votes and the election ended in a tie. To resolve the matter under Extant Rules, a draw of Lots was done in which Sanuallah Parray was selected as the vice chairperson.

Meanwhile, District Election Officer Baramulla Mohammad Aijaz Asad administered oath to the newly elected Chairperson and vice-chairperson.

It is worth here to mention that meeting for the said election was earlier scheduled on 08th of this month which was adjourned by the District Election Officer due to lack of the prescribed quorum.
