URI (BARAMULLA), MARCH 2:

In the interest of general public, Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Baramulla in collaboration with Saaya, a non-governmental organization (NGO) on Tuesday conducted trail test drives for learning license and driving license at Lagama area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The trail is first of its kind being held in far-off and mountainous areas like Uri. At least 55 persons participated in the trial.

The locals have hailed the efforts of the ARTO Baramulla Mubashir Jan. ARTO also briefed the locals about the traffic awareness.

“Uri is the best location I have come across while conducting the trails as it is nestled in mountains and has hilly terrains,” Jan said.

Naveed Bukhtiyar, General Secretary Saaya thanked ARTO for taking up such an initiative. “I request him to organize more such trails which will truly bring relief to people of the town. It is the service at the doorstep,” he said.

“However, the rotten staff or agents will never allow him to work in this public friendly manner,” he added.

Bukhtiyar has also requested Hon’ble LG to empower such officers with special powers so that he can choose his staff for such public causes and award him for his honesty and dedication to the public.

Abrar Bhat, local social activist said, “We request ARTO to open an office in Uri permanently for such services or they should visit Uri once in a week.”
