Amid heavy snowfall, Beacon rescues skidded off mini-bus and passengers on Baramulla-Uri highway

Baramulla: Beacon task force of 53 RCC on Saturday rescued a mini-bus along with passengers after the bus skidded off the road due slippery snow accumulated on Srinagar-Uri highway near Khanpora.

Witnesses said that a mini-bus ferrying  passengers from Baramulla to Sheeru got stuck after skidding off the highway near Khanpora stone queries, authorities of BEACON 53 RCC immediately responded and a rescue operation was launched to rescue the passenger bus.

” Machinery and workers were pressed in by Beacon to rescue our mini bus and passengers safely. Clearance of road was done to provide safe passage to the mini bus till required. We are highly thankful to Beacon authorities of 53 RCC for timely help,’said Shakeel Ahmed, Chairman Mini Bus Association Baramulla.

“The mini-bus full of passengers got stuck in heavy snowfall and skidded off the road. WSC team of 53 RCC, Project Beacon on being info mobilised it’s resources and carried out the rescue operation,” a Beacon official said.

People and local authorities have hailed the efforts of BEACON officials and their prompt response.

DDC Chairman reservation; HC issues notice to the J&K Govt, SEC Petition filed in Court challenging change of women reservation roaster for DDC chairpersons

JAMMU, JANUARY 23 :

Jammu and Kashmir High court has issued notice in the writ petition challenging change of reservation roaster for the offices of chairperson of DDCs and fixed the matter for further hearing on January 27th, with a direction that any action by the Election commission in the UT  shall be subject to further orders of the court in the matter. According to an order, a copy of which lies with “Kasmir News Service” (KNS), Justice Rajnesh Oswal while taking cognizance of the matter , issued notice to the respondent UT govt authorities in J&K  besides State election commission,( Election Authority) while  directing  the respondents to file response by or before, the next date, fixed on  January 27 in the court.
According to Kashmir News Service registry was also directed to list the case in first ten cases in the cause list.
 Mr F A Natnoo AAG, according to Order has  accepted notice on behalf of respondents, who was asked to 
 file response by or before next date.
The petioners Nadeem Sharief Niaz  and others, elected members of DDCs, have challenged the change of reservation roaster of chairpersons of the DDCs for women as 3,6,9and 12 etc , by virtue of SO 13 of 11 January,2021 which they alleged is contrary to the statutory rules ,SO 330 0f 24 October,2020 ,providing reservation from 1,4,7,10 and so on.
The  court after hearing the arguments  of the counsel for petioners   Gagan Basotra, senior advocate alongwith Ms Navdeep Adv, issued notice to the government besides  state election commissioner , with directions to list the matter on January 27th  while directing that  any action taken by the respondent no 4 (State Election Commission) shall be subject to the further orders of the court.(KNS)

BSF detects longest infiltration tunnel along IB in Hiranagar sector

JAMMU, JANUARY 23 :

The security forces on Saturday detected yet another infiltration tunnel along the International Border (IB) in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district in Jammu division, officials said.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), officials said that the long and deep tunnel was entering IB from Pansar forward area of IB.

The tunnel was detected just five days after a tunnel was detected by Border Security Force on International Border.

“It is a 25-30 feet deep tunnel and a long one as compared to some detected recently,” officials said, adding that the long tunnel was meant to push infiltrators into this side and its use in any infiltration in recent times is a matter of investigation—(KNO)

According to inhabitants of the areas from last fifteen days they request uri administration many times to clear snow covered road but fail to clear the roads and people of areas suffer badly.

Due to fresh snowfall many roads and power supply also effected in many villages in Sub Division Uri according to locals from Dudran Boniyar power off from 10: PM last night.

We the inhabitants of the said areas request Governor administration and DC Baramulla to instruc Uri administration to clear roads on war footing basis so the people of Churanda, Batgrah and Hatlanga not suffer more.

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 23 :

Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, was closed for traffic following fresh snowfall on Saturday, officials said.

They said there was heavy snowfall near Jawahar tunnel, leading to the closure of the strategic thoroughfare.

Traffic authorities were heard making announcement, requesting the drivers to return back and “not led people astray.”
“It is my humble request to please return as there are no chances of traffic resuming today.

The vehicles which have passed Nagrota are stranded in Chinani, Ramban, Batote and Nasri,” DTI Nagrota, Inspector Rakesh Kumar, was heard making announcement through public address system fitted in the traffic department vehicle as per GNS correspondent. “Please don’t take any risk. There are chances of (land and snow) slides and as such return home. Whenever highway reopens, there would be traffic from Srinagar to Jammu.” (GNS)

Three injured as vehicle Overturns in Boniyar

URI, JANUARY 23 :

Three persons were injured after a Tavera ‘vehicle’ they were travelling in skidded off the road due to slippery road conditions on Saturday at Challan area of Boniyar in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on saturday.

The vehicle bearing the registration no JK0IQ-3477 has overturned on the roadside, officials said.

The injured persons were identified as Khadim Hussain s/o Babar Ali Husan jan w/o khadim Hussain and Nageena Begum w/o Ishaq Khan, all residents of Bagna Salamabad Uri.

Official sources said all the injured were shifted to the PHC Boniyar for treatment.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Boniyar Parvaiz Ahmad Masoodi told GNS that the injured had recieved minor injuries. “As new X-ray plant is undergoing installation at PHC Boniyar so they have to be shifted to GMC Baramulla,” he said.(GNS)

Flight services hit in Kashmir due to snowfall

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 23:

The air traffic to and fro Kashmir was affected on Saturday in the wake of snowfall in most parts of the valley, officials said.

The snowfall began early in the morning and was continuing when the last reports came in.

“No flight operations have taken place at the Srinagar airport so far this morning,” an official said.

He added that the runway at the airport was not available for flight operations due to the accumulation of snow.

“It is still snowing and hence, it is difficult to clear the runway for flight operations,” the official said.

Several flights have been delayed due to the snowfall, officials said.

A decision on the resumption of flight operations would be taken as and when the weather improves, they added. PTI

Need to avoid human, poultry contacts, say authorities after Bird flu confirmed in crows, migratory birds

As Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, confirmed avian influenza in crows migratory and wild birds, authorities here on Saturday called for strict avoiding of human or poultry contact with such birds.
“In view of Avian Influenza cases reported in Kashmir.

Human or Poultry contact with Wild/Migratory birds (like feeding sources) needs to be strictly avoided,” Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said in a tweet.
He said that animal husbandry department teams are on job—“farms to Wetlands.” “Let’s be careful about biosecurity,” he added. Avian Influenza has been confirmed in crows in Kulgam, Anantnag,Budgam and Pulwama
Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, in a press statement released in the afternoon on Friday said that till January 22, outbreaks of Avian Influenza (Bird flu) was confirmed in 9 States (Kerala, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab) for poultry birds and in 12 States (Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab) for Crow, Migratory and Wild birds.

Avian Influenza has been confirmed in poultry samples from Almora (RKPura, Hawalbagh) district of Uttarakhand; Somnath (Dolasa, Kodinar) district of Gujarat, it said as per GNS.

“Control and Containment Operations (Cleaning and Disinfection) are going on in the affected epicentres of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh & Kerala,” it said, adding, “All the States are reporting to the Department on daily basis regarding the control measures adopted by the States/UTs based on the Revised Action Plan for Preparedness, Control and Containment of Avian Influenza 2021”.

The Department is taking continuous efforts to generate awareness about Avian through platforms including social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook handles, the ministry said. (GNS)

Govt asks officers to submit bio-data for eHRM implementation in J&K

The officers have now been asked to furnish the information on prescribed format within a week’s time without fail, enabling “implementation of eHRM in the Jammu and Kashmir.”

SRINAGAR JANUARY 22 :

The government on Friday said that eHRM implementation has been delayed by non submission of bio-data as per the prescribed format members of the Indian Administrative Service of Jammu and Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service, including Junior KAS officers.

On 9 November last, the government had issued a circular (No. 34-JK(GAD of 2020) asking them to submit their bio-data as per the prescribed proforma and format on an email within 15 days for implementation of eHRM (Manav Sampada) in the Jammu and Kashmir.

“Despite the lapse of considerable time, the requisite information has not been received in respect of majority of officers, while as some officers have provided information in pdf format,” reads an order, a copy of which lies with GNS, adding, ““The non-submission of information by the officers has delayed implementation of eHRM in the Jammu and Kashmir and the same has been viewed seriously”.

Snowfall prediction: Admin asks officers to gear up, stay alert

Ahead of the snowfall prediction, the divisional administration Kashmir has directed all the officers to stay alert and keep the men and machinery ready to tackle any post snowfall situation.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, P K Pole told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that he has directed the officers to stay alert at their headquarters in view of the fresh snowfall prediction.

“The officers have been directed to gear up and men and machinery ready to tackle the post snowfall situation,” he said.

Pertinently, the weatherman has predicted snow spell across J&K from January 22 evening to January 24, saying that the light to moderate snowfall would occur in plains of Kashmir while higher reaches in some areas would receive moderate to heavy snowfall.

Notably, Kashmir received heavy snowfall from January 03-05 following which the people had to face tremendous hardship as the snow clearance process took almost six days while the roadsides in Srinagar areas could still be covered with the snow—(KNO)
