Khawaja Badar-u-din -uncle of renowned broadcaster and editor Sherbeen Maqsood Ahmad and Zaffar Iqbal correspondent Kashmir Uzama passed away on Saturday.

Khawaja Badar-u-din is father of Shabir Ahmad Khawaja of Garkote presently residing in Uri was laid to rest in Uri and large number of people from cross section of society participated in the funeral prayers (Nimaz Jinaza).

North Kashmir Journalist Association and Baramulla Working Journalist Association (BWJA), senior journalist Karamat Qayoom and Bureau Chief North Kashmir Kashmir Images Reyaz Rashid express condolence and solidarity with Maqsood Ahmad and Zaffar Iqbal and extended sympathies with the bereaved family.

Various journalists, social, political and religious organisations have expressed their condolences and prayed for eternal peace departed soul. Senior NC leader Mohmmad Shafi Uri, North Kashmir President National Conference Dr.Sajad Shafi, Fayaz Bukhari correspondent Kashmir Uzma have also extended their condolence and sympathies on the demise of his father.

Condolences and prayer meetings were held throughout the day in which rich tributes and homage was paid to departed soul. After prayers and condolence sincere sympathies and condolences were expressed to the bereaved and family on the sad demise.

Meanwhile, Chairman Human Aid Society Kashmir Bashir Ahmad Mir has also expressed his condolences and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest his soul in peace and grant strength to the family, especially Maqsood Sahib, to bear the loss. Baily Bridge Ready, 500 essential supply laden vehicles to move towards Valley tonight

120 feet long Bailey bridge completed in 60 hours: BRO, 10000 Stranded Vehicles in to be allowed to proceed for Jammu from Kashmir tomorrow: ADGP Traffic

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 16 :

After remaining closed for a week, Srinagar-Jammu national highway is all set to be allowed for vehicular movement tonight after the Border Roads Organization (BRO) completed the Bailey Bridge at Kela Morch in Ramban district along the 300-km stretch highway.

To begin with, 500 essential supply laden vehicles—“all essential supply laden vehicles”— will be allowed to move towards Valley while this evening as 10,000 stranded vehicles will also march towards Kashmir.

The traffic on the only surface link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country and world was suspended after the retaining wall of a bridge at Kela Morh in Ramban suddenly collapsed on Jan 9. Soon after the incident, the traffic authorities decided to close the traffic movement on Srinagar- Jammu national highway for 10 days.

However, as an interim relief, BRO launched Bailey bridge at Kela Morh in Ramban, that was completed today after a successful trial run. Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) T.Namgyal, while speaking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said: “The Bailey bridge is completed. A successful trial was also conducted on the same today.”

Speaking about the traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, Namgyal said: “Once the traffic is through on Bailey bridge, only 500 vehicles laden with essentials will be allowed to move towards Kashmir valley, which will include fresh vegetables, Gas, Petroleum and other essential supplies.” He said that the movement of vehicles with essentials is expected tonight.

While speaking about the traffic movement for tomorrow, he said: “In valley there are almost 10000 stranded vehicles which includes Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), they will be allowed to move towards Jammu and no vehicular movement will be allowed from Jammu towards Kashmir.”

“There will be only one way traffic on Srinagar Jammu National Highway”, he further told KNO.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued by BRO about the launching of Bailey bridge at Kela Morh in Ramban, the statement read: “The construction of Bailey bridge at Kela Morh in Ramban on Jammu-Srinagar National highway has been completed, trial run was carried out successfully today afternoon and traffic will be able to run on it by evening.”

Brigadier I K Jaggi Chief Engineer Project Beacon of BRO, who was monitoring the construction of the bridge, said that BRO put men and machinery who after hectic efforts completed the bridge.

“We have completed the vital bridge in just 60 hours. Traffic can play on it as trial run was successful today. By today evening, traffic will resume on it,” he said. Meanwhile, officials at BRO said that 120 feet long bridge can carry 40 tons of weight at a time—(KNO)

The government has transferred many IAS and KAS officers on Saturday shifting some deputy commissioners , Directors and MDs . According to the order issued Saturday evening.


 Bhupinder Kumar, IAS, Mission Director, National Health Mission, J&K, has been  transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla. Anshul Garg, IAS (K:2013), Deputy 
Commissioner, Kupwara, is transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag. 

Choudhary Mohammad Yasin, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, is transferred and posted as Mission Director, National Health Mission, J&K Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, IAS (JK:2016), 
Additional Deputy Commissioner in the office of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, is transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner, Shopian. Nazim Zai Khan, KAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, is transferred and posted as Director, Industries and Commerce, Kashmir.

He shall also hold the additional charge of Additional Secretary, Public Grievances.

TWJA elections ended peacefully, Ishfaq Ahmad Dar Correspondent (Gulistan News) elected president.

TANGMARG JANUARY 16;

Today the Tangmarg Working Journalists Association (TWJA) held election in Tangmarg under the supreme supervision of SDM Gulmarag Mr. Shabirul Hassan, SDPO Gulmarg Mr. Hilal Khaliq, Reshi Parvaiz Chief editor the chinar valley, the insight Kashmir, and Gulzar Ahmad Zargar Baramulla working Journalists association and EO MC Tangmarg Mr. Gh Rasool Shah.

The voting was started at 11:00 am and ended 12:00 Noon, the seventeen voters casted their vote in favour of their wishing candidate,there were three candidates in the field the most of votes were casted in favour of Ishfaq Ahmad Dar and he was elected as president Tangmarg Working Journalists Association, who were facilitate by certificate by Tangmarg Working Journalists association (TWJA) (election commission) in presence of SDM and SDPO Gulmarg.

Also the senior Journalist and executive members of journalists BA Sagar and Syed Mushtaq along with Election Incharge Aadil Dar was on chair.After that a meeting was held with all journalist in hotel pine view Tangmarg where all points were discussed.The elections were ended peacefully.(KNS)

Bailey Bridge Trial Run Ends, Jammu-Srinagar Highway Likely To Reopen By Today Evening

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 16 :

The Srinagar-Jammu highway is likely to be opened for traffic after six days of closure as trial run on the Bailey bridge was completed on Saturday afternoon.

The thoroughfare, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, was closed at 6:20 p.m. on January 10 after the retaining wall of a key bridge collapsed suddenly near Kela Morh, Ramban.While repair work was started by authorities, Border Road Organization launched Bailey bridge construction in the nearby area to restore the traffic on the highway.

“The Load capacity is 40 tons including the weight of the vehicle. People have to be very very careful. Overloaded trucks or vehicles carrying more than 40 tons of weights will endanger this bridge,” Engineer BRO, Brigadier IK Jaggi, told reporters after the trial run was carried this afternoon, as per GNS correspondent.

To a question when the light motor vehicles and the heavyweight vehicles will be allowed, the officer said. “our finishing is going on. We are carrying the final checking. Hopefully by 6 p.m. or 7 p.m., traffic should be traveling on it.”
He further said: “While our boys are working and we cannot have vehicles moving at the same time which will endanger my boys.”

Asked about the challenges, he said there were various constraints including weather, space, and getting material. “Too many people are coming to see something is happening. There was no space to work. But then we face these challenges and move on,” he said, adding, “One of the challenges initially was to get source together and we had to manage it from four to five different locations as far as Bhederwah etc.”

Meanwhile, sources told GNS that work to repair the retaining wall of the key bridge was going on and may still take around a week to complete. (GNS)

Police officer dies of cardio-pulmonary arrest

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 16 :

A police officer died of cardio-pulmonary arrest here in Kashmir capital Srinagar.

Police sources told News Agency KNT that an Assistant Sub-Inspector, posted at Shergari Police Station was shifted to SMHS Hospital after he complained of chest pain.

The police officer died in the hospital while the cause of his death is attributed to cardio-pulmonary arrest.

The deceased cop has been identified as Amrez Ahmed Khoja (177/S EXK-901261), a resident of Ibkote Karnah area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The dead body has been handed over to his legal heirs for last rites. (KNT)

COVID-19 vaccination drive launched in J&K, 4 thousand health workers to get shots today,Dir SKIMS Dr. Ahanger gets first shot

The much awaited COVID-19 vaccination drive commenced on Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir along with other parts of the country. 

Top health officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the drive has commenced and around 4 thousand health workers will be vaccinated today. 
Meanwhile, at the inaugural function at SKIMS Soura Advisor to Lt Governor, R R Bhatnagar and deputy commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Shahid Choudhary were present, where first COVID vaccine shot was given to director SKIMS, Dr. AG Ahangar and a sanitation worker while in Jammu LG Manoj Sinha inaugurated the vaccination drive. 

Officials said that there are 40 sites in J&K where vaccination is taking place and around 100 frontline workers at each site will get vaccination today.  

It is pertinent to mention here that J&K on Wednesday received a batch of 1. 465 lakh Covishield vaccines and among them 79,000 were received by Kashmir division.
As per the government of India guidelines, people who receive the first shot of Covidshield vaccine will be injected only Covidshield as the second dose—(KNO)

2 persons injured as load carrier rolls into Jhelum In Hajin

BANDIPORA, JANUARY 16 :

Two persons were injured after a load carrier they were travelling in plunged into a river jhelum near Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday.

Reports reaching GNS said that a Bandipora -bound tata mobile (JK15A 5193) met with an accident after the driver purportedly lost control over the vehicle near Prang area of Hajin.

The injured have been identified as Showkat Ahmad Garoo(35) son of Abdul Raheem Garoo resident of Shadipora and Ghulam Nabi Guroo son of Ghulam Rasool Garoo, both residents of Shadipora village in Bandipora District.

The injured were shifted to local PHC from where the duo was shifted to SKIMS soura for specialized treatment.

Meanwhile, Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further investigation has been initiated.(GNS)

Five persons have been arrested in a case regarding pasting of threat posters in Seer & Batagund villages of Tral: Police

AWANTIPORA, JANUARY 16:

On 13 January 2021 some threat posters of the militant outfit were found pasted in Seer & Batagund villages of Tral area. Upon the said incident case FIR No. 04/2021 under relevant sections of Unlawful Activities Act stands lodged in Police Station Tral.

During the course of investigation, investigating team raided multiple places and rounded up several suspects. During the questioning of suspects and collection of other evidence 05 militant associates were found to be involved in pasting of the said threat posters in Seer and Batagund area and were accordingly arrested in the said case.

The details of the arrested persons are:-

(1) Jehangir Ahmad Parray S/o Ghulam Nabi Parray

(2) Aijaz Ahmad Parray S/o Gh Mohammad Parray

(3) Towseef Ahmad Lone S/o Mohammad Ramzan Lone

(4) Sabzar Ahmad Bhat S/o Abdul Rashid Bhat

(5) Qaisar Ahmad Dar S/o Gulzar Ahmad Dar all residents of Gulshanpora Tral.

One Laptop and a printer used for the preparation and printing of the said threat posters have been seized in the said case.

Further investigation questioning is going on.

Sale of Air Tickets on Exorbitant Rates: Crime Branch Kashmir Searches Premises Of Several Travel Agencies

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 16 :

Crime Branch Kashmir on Saturday carried searches at the premises of several travel agencies in connection with a case registered by it regarding the sale of air tickets on highly exorbitant rates in league with airlines staff.

The case— FIR (03/2020)—was registered by the Crime Branch last year after different travel associations and trade bodies approached it through Director Tourism Kashmir regarding “dry selling or offline selling” of the bulk tickets by air lines staff to the ticketing agents in advance. The case was registered under penal code’s sections 120, 468, 471, 409, 120-B.

The Crime Branch has already summoned representatives of various airlines—Vistara, Go-Air, Indigo, Air India, Air Asia, and Spice jet— and briefed them regarding the case, a senior officer of the Crime Branch told GNS.

“On perusal of the records submitted by the airlines and based on the statements recorded, it has transpired that a huge number of tickets have been purchased by some entities in connection with the staff of the airlines,” the officer said. The raids, sources said, were carried a day after a local court issued search warrants against at least ten travel agencies. (GNS)
