SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 21:

The National Conference on Sunday said the spike in the violence against security forces in Jammu and Kashmir debunks the claims of the government that peace has returned to the union territory.
It also expressed hope that the Centre will take tangible steps to usher in peace in the Kashmir Valley in the “real sense”.

“One is at its wits’ end to comprehend what qualifies as peace to government. The deteriorating security situation in the valley is the telling indictment of the reckless policies of the government of India (GOI),” NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar said.

Sagar was speaking after visiting the residence of slain policeman Suhail Ahmed at Logripura in Ashmuqam area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir”s Anantnag district to express unison with the bereaved family. Ahmad was one of the two policemen killed in a militant attack in the Baghat area of the city here on Friday.

The NC general secretary said incidents like these should act as an eye-opener for the Centre.

“The jinxed fate of ours has devoured thousands of our people, including security forces. One can only hope that the GOI will rise to the occasion and take tangible steps to usher in peace in Kashmir in real sense.

“This, the party believes, cannot be done without respecting the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

While interacting with the bereaved family, Sagar expressed solidarity with them and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

He said the NC has always been against the violence of all hues.

“No emancipated society will approve of such dastardly and heinous acts. Violence begets violence; the vicious circle has no end. The motive of my visit to the bereaved family is to express unison with them in their grief on the behalf of the party leadership. Sanctity of every human life should be respected,” he said.

The NC leader said the Jammu and Kashmir Police represents a saga of sacrifices and the public service and sacrifice rendered by them is a proud legacy that needs to be respected and lauded by one and all.

“I am hopeful that the administration will support the families of slain cops who lost their lives the other day at Baghat. The government is duty-bound to ensure that they do not suffer on any account,” he added. (PTI)

Any hasty decision about the future and the tutor could prove fatal: Qayoom Wani

SNS KASHMIR

JAMMU FEBRUARY 21 :

Assessing the govt move to open the schools in Jammu and Kashmir from March 1st amid the prevailing pandemic of COVID 19, Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum has cautioned the govt with regard to the health-safety of the students and the teachers who could be badly hit if the utmost precautions are not exercised in reopening of schools. In a statement issued here Chairman, JKCSF, Abdul Qayoom Wani said that children were the future and the teachers the builders of that future and any hasty decision about the future and the tutor (teacher) could prove fatal . Referring to the news reports about the mutated strains of the novel Coronavirus that claim that the new variants of Corona virus could lead to resurgence of Covid-19 cases and bring back the pandemic with severe consequences. Wani quoted Doctors body’s, DAK observations that

“After the UK variant, South African and Brazilian variants have found their way into India. “While we struggle to come to grips with the foreign strains, a “new Indian mutant strain” has been found in Maharashtra which is seeing a spike in cases after a two month lull.”…“The new variants are on the move and they can sneak into the valley anytime,”

“When experts are saying that new variants are on move and they can sneak into the valley anytime and on the other hand when there has been no vaccination against the virus made to the students and to the teachers, how come it is wise step to push the future of the nation and the builder of the nation to the wall and to make them the laboratory tools!” Wani questioned.

JKCSF suggests the stakeholders and the policymakers in the government to reconsider the decision of reopening of schools in this fiery and weary environment of pandemic where it has no ‘space and time’ of stop yet. The better options are to continue the online classes now with 4g speed available and as now the students have been adopted to the trend.

Bandipora reporter alleges harassment & fabrication by revenue official for his story on demolition drive

Press Club expresses deep concern over filing of FIR

SNS KASHMIR

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 21:

Kashmir Press Club has expressed deep concern over registration of an FIR against a young reporter in Bandipora’s Hajin area, who has alleged that he is being harassed and falsely implicated by the authorities for doing a story about demolition drive in a village in the area recently.

The reporter, who stands by his story published on 9 February 2021, in a letter to the Club has also alleged that the concerned Tehsildar through police is trying to implicate him in false and fabricated charges of “stone pelting “.

He said that he has been told by the police that on the insistence of the concerned Tehsildar an FIR vide number 12/2021 dated February 10, 2021 under sections 147, 447 and 353 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against him at Police Station Hajin Bandipora. But despite repeated requests he has not been provided the copy of the FIR by the police, he said.

The reporter Sajad Gul had filed a story about a demolition drive carried out by the revenue authorities in Hajin’s Shahgund village of Bandipora district in north Kashmir on February 9,2021.

In the story, the residents of the concerned village in alleged that they were being “harassed and threatened” by the Tehsildar concerned Hajin over demolition of their houses.

“I want to bring it to your kind notice that Tehsildar Hajin Ghulam Mohammad Bhat has been harassing me from last two weeks by putting baseless allegations like stone pelting and shouting slogans during their demolition drive which happened on 10th February” the reporter Gul has said in his testimony to the Club.

“It is pertinent to say that on that day I was out of the station at Rajbagh Srinagar.I have kindly requested DySP (concerned) to locate the location of my cell phone on that day but to my utter dismay they are not resolving the matter.

“The Tehsildar has been threatening me to end my career and put me behind bars for doing the story which is based on sheer truth and facts,” said Gul in his testimony emailed to the Kashmir Press Club.

Though the Club had flagged up the issue with the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir as well as the Deputy Commissioner about the alleged harassment by the Tehsildar concerned a few days ago but despite their assurances as reported by the said reporter an FIR has been registered against him.
Given this background involving alleged threats by an official to a journalists for doing a story and the threats legal action and fabrications, the Kashmir Club urges upon the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Inspector General of Police Kashmir to look into the matter and alleged misuse of his authority by the concerned Tehsildar on whose insistence an FIR has been filed against the concerned reporter.

The concerned police officers are also urged upon to have a considerate view into the matter and thoroughly probe the matter and particularly the assertion by the reporter that he wasn’t even present at the location on that day. He himself is ready to give all the proof in this regard.

The Club expresses deep concern on registration of such an FIR against the journalist concerned on “false and fabricated charges” again and reiterates that public spirited journalism or highlighting the concerns of the affected is one of the primary duties of the media and implicating a journalist for rendering public services on false and fabricated charges is an assault on journalism.
