Police have recovered the guard’s snatched rifle besides the maruti cab used by burglars to decamp with cash from the site after breaking into a J&K Bank branch, in Sherabad Khore in Pattan on Friday morning.
An official told news agency Global News Service (GNS) that the abandoned vehicle was found at Wusan village in Kunzar area of Baramulla district this morning.
On searches the snatched 12-Bore rifle snatched from the bank guard was also found near the site, the official said.
In the meantime searches have been intensified in an around the area to nab the culprits, the official said.
It is pertinent to mention here that at least three persons donning PPE kits had on Thursday struck into a bank and fled with an cash amount of rupees two lac eighty six-thousand one hundred and thirty (2,86,130 INR) besides a 12-Bore rifle from a guard on duty.(GNS)

Plains in Kashmir Valley received more rains while upper reaches including the world famous skiing resort of Gulmarg received fresh snowfall, bringing mercury considerably down, officials said on Friday.
A meteorological department official told GNS that Srinagar received 37.4mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 0830 a.m. today while it recorded a low of 4.6°C against 8.6°C on the previous night. The temperature was 4.3°C below normal in the summer capital of J&K for this time of the season, he said.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, received 15.4mm of rain during the time and recorded a low of 3.6°C against previous night’s 4.6°C, the official said.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, received 21.4mm of rain and recorded a low of 0.8°C against 3.3°C on the previous night, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, received 13.3mm of rain during the time and recorded a low of 1.8°C against previous night’s 3.7°C, the official said.
Kupwara had 11.0 mm of rain and recorded a low of 3.7°C against 5.0°C on the previous night, the official said.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, received 29.0cm (near one foot) of fresh snowfall in the last 24 hours, the officials said. The report recorded a low of minus 2.0°C against minus 0.5°C on the previous night, the official said. Reports of snowfall have been received in other upper reaches of the Valley. The MeT office has forecast “isolated to scattered light rain//thunderstorm over Jammu and Kashmir divisions” in next 24 hours.
Director Meteorological Department Sonam Lotus said while it was cloudy, the weather is expected to “mainly dry” from April 24 till May 3.
“Weather will improve gradually as the day progresses and from 24th till 3rd May expect dry and warmer weather in both J&K and Ladakh,” he said.
He said the weather is overcast in most parts of Ladakh with snowfall over higher reaches. (GNS)
Government has directed all the head of Educational Institutions to ensure 100% attendance of the teaching and non-teaching staff in their respective institutions.
Chief Education Officer Srinagar has issued a formal order directing Principals, Headmasters and Zonal Education Officers to submit attendance of staff on daily basis through an online application.
The order as per KNT reads that it has come to the notice of Chief Education Officer that heads of some schools have issued rosters for 50% of their staff on their own. As there are no such directions from the Government till date.
It directed all the heads of educational institutions to ensure 100% attendance of staff in their respective schools and desist from such exercise till Government issues any direction in this regard. (KNT)
Thirteen COVID-19 patients died in a blaze at the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Palghar district of Maharashtra on Friday, police said.
There were 90 patients in the hospital, 18 of them in the ICU, when the fire broke out after a blast in the AC unit, an official said. The dead include five women and eight men.
TV visuals showed the smoke-filled ICU in a disarray after the blaze, with the ceiling falling off in some places, beds and other furniture strewn around and kin of the deceased wailing outside the hospital.
The fire broke out in the ICU on the second floor of the four-storeyed Vijay Vallabh Hospital at Virar shortly after 3 am, an official said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze at 5.20 am, he added.
There were 18 patients in the ICU when the fire broke out, the official said. Five patients were rescued and shifted to other hospitals in the area, he added.
The other patients in the hospital were not affected as the damage was confined to the ICU, he added.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has ordered a probe into the tragedy, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said.
Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya said authorities should check if there was a fire safety audit of the hospital, which is over 50 km from Mumbai.
The tragedy comes two days after 22 COVID-19 patients who were either on ventilator or oxygen support, suffocated to death when their oxygen supply stopped suddenly due to a malfunction in the main storage at a civic hospital in Nashik.
District Disaster Control Cell chief Vivekanand Kadam told PTI that the Virar hospital fire was preceded by an explosion in the AC unit of the intensive care unit.
Relatives of the deceased reached the hospital soon after hearing of the incident and demanded that stringent action be taken against those responsible for the tragedy.
Ten infants were killed in a fire that broke out at a special newborn care unit of the Bhandara district hospital in Maharashtra on January 9. Seventeen infants, aged one to three months, were admitted to the ward at the time of the tragedy.
A fire broke out in Mumbai”s Dreams Mall, which housed a Covid-designated hospital on its third floor, in the intervening night of March 25-26. The fire, which raged for over 40 hours, claimed nine lives, including those of patients on ventilator support.—(PTI)
‘Baramulla most affected with 1258 active positive cases’

With the resurgence of COVID-19 cases across Jammu and Kashmir, Baramulla alone of the three northern districts is witnessing a steep rise in cases taking the total active tally to 1258 with 184 deaths since the pandemic.
North Kashmir comprising three border districts including Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora is witnessing a regular rise in COVID-19 cases with Baramulla most affected due to the virus in recent days amid the 2nd wave.
As per the figure available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), reveal that north Kashmir in the last six days reported a total of 969 COVID-19 cases with the highest cases of 689 from Baramulla deaths besides two deaths.
The two deaths in North Kashmir were reported in Baramulla and Kupwara with one each, reveal the figures.
The figures state that Baramulla started to witness a sharp spike of cases since Saturday last week with a total of 112 cases followed by 122, 110,136, and 232 cases between 18 to April 21.
Of the total share, Bandiproa and Kupwara have reported only 280 COVID-19 positive cases and death. The figure reveals that 158 cases were from Kupwara and 122 from Bandipora.
As per the figures, Baramulla has so far reported a total of 10,939 cases of which 184 have died and 9497 have recovered taking the toll of active positive cases to 1258 as of Thursday.
Kupwara has reported a total of 6261 cases of which 5853 have recovered and 99 have died.
Bandipora has reported a total of 5053 cases of which 4811 have recovered while 63 have died of COVID-19 taking the total toll of active positive cases to 179.
Notably, ever since the pandemic, North Kashmir has reported a total of 22,253 of which 20,161 have recovered successfully while 346 have died of the COVID-19 virus. A total of 1746 positive cases are active in the northern belt—(KNO)
The ailing wife of incarcerated Hurriyat (G) leader and spokesman Ayaz Akbar passed away at her Maloora HMT residence in Srinagar city.
Family sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that Rafeeq Begum, the wife of Ayaz Akbar was suffering from cancer from past couple of years.
Ayaz Akbar was arrested in July 2018 by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) over the alleged militant funding case. He along with some top Hurriyat leaders is languishing at New Delhi’s Tihar jail.
Family sources said that Nimaz-e-Jinazah for the departed soul will be held at 8 AM this morning. (KNT)
An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found along Circular road in Pulwama on Friday.
An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that security forces found an IED along Circular road on Tahab road in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
He said that IED has been defused and a major incident was averted.

Jammu and Kashmir reported 1965 fresh covid-19 cases while eight more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Thursday.
They said 789 cases were confirmed from Jammu Division and 1176 from Kashmir Valley, taking the total infection count to 154407. Among the cases include 243 travelers, 108 in Jammu division and 135 in Kashmir.
Providing district wise details, the officials told GNS that Srinagar reported 590 cases, Baramulla 198, Budgam 68, Pulwama 62, Kupwara 54, Anantnag 105, Bandipora 13, Ganderbal 23, Kulgam 35, Shopian 28, Jammu 469, Udhampur 68, Rajouri 45, Doda 27, Kathua 31, Samba 31, Kishtwar 15, Poonch 13, Ramban 39 and Reasi 51.There are 16094 actives cases in the J&K—6761 in Jammu and 9333 in Kashmir.
Moreover, they said, 791 more COVID-19 patients have recovered—242 from Jammu Division and 549 from the Valley. (GNS)

Baramula, April 22 : Police on Thursday claimed to have solved a blind murder case of man at Renji Pattan arresting two accused.
Addressing a press conference at Pattan Police Station, Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla (SSP) Rayees Mohammed said that following mysterious death of Mohammad Altaf Malik son of Gh Rasool Malik R/o Seriwarpora age 34 years son in law of Late Abdul Razaq Ganie at Renji on the intervening night of 8/9th March 2021 and body of the slain was found was found dead near his in-laws cowshed. Later he was buried by family members at Renji graveyard.
On 22 march brother of the deceased submitted application for initiating inquest proceedings as he and his family members were suspicious regarding death of their brother.
Accordingly as per formal orders of DM Baramulla, the dead body was exhumed and post mortem was conducted by a Penal of oder, from GMC Baramulla. After the receipt of interim Medical Report and the statement of some prime witnesses the inquest proceedings U/S 174 CrPC were converted Into FIR vide No. 62/2021 H/S 302 IPC of PS Patton. The investigation was Cr,. by SDPO Patten alongwith his team,SSP Baramulla said.
