Bandipora-Gurez road reopens for one-way traffic

BANDIPORA, APRIL 10 :

The authorities on Saturday allowed one-way traffic movement on 85-km long Bandipora-Gurez, after it remained closed for the winter months due to accumulation of heavy snow.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that soon after clearing the snow by utilising men and machinery, the road was reopened today for the on way vehicular movement of passengers and essential commodities from Bandipora to Gurez.

“We have completed the snow clearance operation on this road last week, but due to bad weather the road was closed for traffic. However, vehicles have been allowed to move on the road today,” he said.

He said that the drivers are recommended to travel to Gurez with snow-skid chains as a precaution.

He added that it as a great relief for the local population of Gurez as the area was cutt-off for the last six months.

It is noteworthy that the snow clearance work by the 56RCC unit of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on the road was going on for the last several months.

Notably, Gurez area remains cut off from the rest of the Kashmir valley due to the accumulation of snow along the high peaks through which the road passes—(KNO)

COVID-19: Sgr Admin declares two more localities as micro containment zones

The district administration Srinagar on Saturday declared two more localities here as micro containment zones.

In a tweet, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Aijaz Asad, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that Hamdania Colony Rawalpora and Chinkral Mohalla Habbakadal have been declared as micro containment zones.

DHSK disengages all contractual employees hired in wake of COVID-19 situation last year

Dir issues circular, asks officers to ensure no contractual employee is working at their concerned districts from April 01

Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) Thursday issued a circular, disengaging all the contractual appointees, who were hired by the department in wake of extraordinary situation that had arisen due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

In a circular, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Director Health Services Kashmir directed all the Chief Medical Officers (CMO), Medical Superintendents and other Territorial offices to ensure that no contractual employee is working at their respective districts from 01-04-2021.

“It is enjoined upon all the Chief Medical Officers/Medical Superintendents and
other Terrotarial Offices falling within the jurisdiction of this Directorate that the
employees both (Medical/Para Medical/Nursing Staff) hired by this Department on
contractual basis in view of the extraordinary situation that had arisen due to the spread of Covid-19 Pandemic under different orders purely in pursuance to Govt. Order No.347-(K) HME of 2020 Dated: 28.03.2020 shall deem to have been disengaged from their contractual appointments and from thier respective place of postings forthwith as the tenure of one year stands expired on 31.03.2021 till further orders are received from the higher authorities.”

“All the Chief Medical Officers/Medical Superintendents and other Territorial Offices shall ensure that no contractual employee is working at their respective districts from 01.04.2021 and in the event of non-compliance of instructions, the
concerned CMO/Medical Superintendent and other Territorial Offices will be responsible for litigation(s), if any, held thereafter,” the circular added—(KNO)

High Court, J&K puts physical hearing of cases in abeyance for time being

Hearing to be conducted through virtual mode till 18 April

SRINAGAR, APRIL 08:

In compliance of the order issued by High Court of J&K, the physical hearing of the cases has been kept in abeyance for the time being and the hearing of the cases in the district and subordinate courts shall be conducted through virtual mode till 18 April, 2021.

However, as per an official statement liberty has been granted to learned counsel for both the parties for taking up their respective matter through physical mode subject to their consent.

It was given out that on the written consent for physical appearance, (with case details, the name of the court in which case is pending and CNR number of the case) the Presiding officer of the concerned court taking into consideration the urgency involved, apart from virtual hearing, may, where the learned counsel for the parties/parties in person involved give their consent to appear for physical hearing, permit physical hearing in Criminal trials where accused is/are in custody, Matrimonial Cases, Cases under Section 138 of Negotiable Instruments Act, Compromise matters or in any other matters, as deemed desirable in the courts under his/her jurisdiction.

With regard to the Motor Accident claims pending before MACT, the parties shall approach the Presiding officer MACT directly through virtual mode for grant of permission for appearance physically.

Besides for filing of the fresh Petitions, it shall be incumbent upon all Presiding Officers to get the Petitions, so received by them through virtual mode, generated at the Institution/Filing counter so that the file is properly diarized on OS.

Meanwhile, for further enquiry regarding written consent for physical appearance, concerned persons may contact any of the officials of the e-court section. Further, the staff on duty in courts and the counsel appearing physically have been directed to take necessary precautions, ensure physical distancing, wearing of masks and observance of SOPs and guidelines issued by the respective Government from time to time.

J&K Reports 835 Covid-19 Cases In Record High This Year

SRINAGAR,, APRIL 8 :

Jammu and Kashmir reported 835 fresh covid-19 cases, including 162 travelers in the last 24 hours, the highest number of infections reported in a single day this year, officials said on Thursday.

Among the fresh cases, they said, Jammu division reported 280 cases and Kashmir 555, taking the J&K’s overall infection count to 135662.

Also, more person— 80-year-old patient from Singpora Baramulla—died due to the virus, taking the total toll to 2019—745 in Jammu region and 1274 in Kashmir.

Providing district wise details, the officials told GNS that Srinagar reported 349 cases, Baramulla 74, Budgam 24, Pulwama 8, Kupwara 31, Anantnag 22, Bandipora 18, Ganderbal 7, Kulgam 18, Shopian 4, Jammu 148, Udhampur 35, Rajouri 9, Doda 4, Kathua 20, Samba 8, Kishtwar 4, Poonch 3, Ramban 2and Reasi 47. Two poachers were arrested, weapons seized by joint team of Forest Protection Force (FPF) and Wildlife officials

Srinagar: Two poachers were arrested and their weapons seized during a pre-dawn raid by Forest Protection Force of K-01 Unit Srinagar and Wildlife officials of Central Control Room when they were indulging in killing migratory birds in Narkara Wetland in Budgam district on Thursday.

Joint Director Forest Protection Force (FPF) Kashmir, Irfan Rasool said a joint patrolling team of forest protection and wildlife officials was on routine patrolling around Narkara Wetland in the outskirts of Srinagar in Budgam district. The joint team spotted the two poachers poaching migratory birds.”

“The joint team led by Range Officer Wildlife carried out the surprise raid and found two poachers hunting migratory birds and both the poachers were apprehended on spot with two guns, two mojos and used cartridges,” he informed.

He further informed that the culprits have been identified as Ali Mohammed and Iqbal Ahmed from Bemina Srinagar who are now in police custody. The wildlife offence case has been registered against them under the provisions of Indian Wildlife Act 1972.

“Our wetlands are an important part of the ecosystem, which need to be preserved under all circumstances. The migratory birds during winter season find these wetlands in Jammu and Kashmir as most suitable habitat but the poachers and hunters are their main enemies who cause irreparable loss by hunting these birds,” a wildlife official said.

Police have started a special drive to act against these hunters, a case under Indian Wildlife Act 1972 act has been registered against the arrested poachers, a police official said. He added two guns, two mojos and used cartridges have been recovered from the possession of the arrested poachers.

Heroin Consignment Worth Estimated 60 Crores INR Recovered in Karnah Forests

KUPWARA, APRIL 8:

Police in Kupwara claimed to have recovered a Heroin consignment worth crores on busting of a ‘typical Pakistan-sponsored narco-terror model’in Karnah forest area in this north-Kashmir district on Thursday afternoon.

Detailing out the recovery to media persons during a presser held here at District Headquarters, newly-appointed SSP Kupwara GV Sundeep said that one Mukhtar Ahmad Shah, a resident of Panjitara in Tanghdar was arrested in this regard, leading to recovery of nine-kilograms of Heroin. The estimated market value of the contraband, as per the officer, is somewhere between 50-60 crores.

“We were onto it for last one week after receiving specific inputs and it was last night Kupwara police alongside 6 JAK RIF made the successful recovery of the contraband”, the officer said.

“The identified smuggler has been in contact with handlers across the borders”, the officer said adding that “All those models and smugglers are involved in supporting the militant organizations.”
“Whenever we arrest the smugglers or bust the narco-models, it exposes the links between the formers’ with Pakistan”, the officer said.

“They have a modus operandi of pushing the handlers and smugglers across the borders with a aim to exchange the drugs in lieu of money to support the militant organizations”, the officer said adding that “This is a big hawala racket as money is transferred without money movement to finance militant organizations.”

“A case FIR number 22/2021 under section 8/21 NDPS Act has been registered at police station Karnah and further investigations taken up in this regard”, SSP Kupwara told in press conference at Kupwara.

The officer has in the meantime expressed his resolve to rein into the people involved in drug related activities. “We firmly vouch to eradicate the menace and won’t come easy on people involved in such activities” the official said.

The police officer has in the meantime urged parents and Civil Society to play their role in strengthening their fight to combat the menace for the larger benefit of society.

Current Covid wave affecting people aged 20-45 yrs: Delhi Health Minister
