32,31,353 domicile certificates Issued In J&K: MHA

SRINAGAR, MARCH 16 :

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Tuesday informed Lok Sabha that a total of 32,31,353 applicants have been issued domicile certificates in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir while 2,15,438 applications have been rejected till December 30 last year.

MHA was replying to query raised in Lower House about the process of issuing the domicile to those who have applied including the permanent residents of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs GK Reddy in a written reply said that a total of 35,44,938 applications for the issue of domicile certificates have been received as on 31st December 2020, out of which 32,31,353 applicants have been issued domicile certificates.

“As per information provided by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, a total of 35,44,938 applications for the issue of domicile certificates have been received as on 31st December 2020, out of which 32,31,353 applicants have been issued domicile certificates,” Reddy said.

“As of 31st December 2020, a total of 31,08,682 domicile certificates have been issued to the dependents/holders of erstwhile Permanent Resident Certificates (PRC) in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir,” Reddy said.

Reddy said that a total of 2,15,438 applications has been rejected as of 31st December 2020.

“Rule 5 of the Jammu and Kashmir Grant of domicile certificate (Procedure) Rules, 2020 mandates certain documents to be annexed with the application”, the MoS said. “The applications which lack the prescribed documents are rejected.”—(KNO)

Authorities seal 2 butchers shop

SRINAGAR, MARCH 16 :

A butcher shop was sealed in Chadora town of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district while another shop was sealed in Drinagar outskirts for selling dressed meat.

Sources told KNT that Naib Tehsildar Chadura Imtiyaz Ahmad sealed a Meat Shop owned by on Abdul Salam Ganie of Chadura for selling meat at higher rates than fixed by the Government.

An FIR vide number 17/2021 under section 3/7 Essential Commodities Act was registered at police station Chadura against the owner of the shop.

District authorities urged general public for raising the issue with administration if they found any meat seller violating government approved rates.

Meanwhile, a butcher shop was in Elahibagh area of Srinagar for selling imported dressed meat, taking undue advantage of shortage of mutton supply in the Valley.

An official said that it had come to the knowledge of the authorities that some unscrupulous elements taking undue advantage of shortage of mutton supply, import dressed meat clandestinely to the Valley in contravention of the rules and regulations of Food safety and standards Act.

“Taking serious note of same a butcher shop at Elahibagh Buchpora has been sealed and drive to curb this illegal practice shall continue in coming days,” he said. (KNT)

Three masked men loot Rs 3.5 lakh from Grameen Bank in Mujgund Srinagar

SRINAGAR, MARCH 16 :

Three masked men on Tuesday afternoon robbed a bank in Mujgund area in the outskirts of Srinagar and decamped with cash amount of around 3.5 lakh.

Sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that three masked men broke into Grameen Bank Mujgund branch and looted a cash amount of Rs 350000 from the bank.

They said that as soon as the incident was reported to police, a police team from Parimpora police station reached the spot to ascertain the facts.

Meanwhile, an official said that the a police team is on the post and were ascertaining the facts about the bank robbery. He said that further details will be shared later—(KNO)

PIA Written Aircraft-Shaped Balloon Sighted Again in Jammu

SRINAGAR, MARCH 16:

For the second time in a week now, an aircraft-shaped balloon with PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) written on it, was recovered by local police in Bhalwal area of Jammu division on Tuesday morning.

Reliable sources told GNS that the balloon was found by local residents following to which a police team reached the spot. “It was after due assessment that the team took the object into their possession”, they said.

“A similarly designed balloon was also found on March 9, after it had landed in Sotra Chakk village of Hiranagar sector”, they said.

Meanwhile a police official said that they have taken possession of the mystifying object and the matter set under investigation. (GNS)

3 J&K Battalion NCC conducts NCC camp at Boniyar

A National Cadet Corps Annual Training Camp is being organized by 3 Jammu & Kashmir Battalion NCC Baramulla from 10 to 16 March 2021 in Army Camp Boniyar under the ageis of NCC Group Headquarters Srinagar and NCC Directorate Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, said a defense spokesperson.

“The local Army formation is rendering its full support to the NCC camp. The last camp was held at Boniyar in 2009. A total of 110 Cadets from the schools and colleges of Baramulla, Uri, Handwara, Tangmarg, Tangdhar, Kupwara, Lolab, Bandipora, Pattan, Sopore and Boniyar are taking part in the present camp. Successful training at the camp will make the Cadets eligible to attend ‘B’ & ‘C’ certificate examination to be held later in the month. The Camp commenced on 10 March 2021 after the conduct of Rapid Corona Test of all participating cadets by team of Block Medical Officers Boniyar,” the spokesperson said.

“The training imparted included Physical Training, Drill, Weapon Training, Firing, Map Reading and grooming to instill confidence in them. Special emphasis was laid on positive thinking, self-learning, acquiring general awareness, social service and community development activities. To commemorate the Golden Jubilee of 1971 Indo-Pak War, activities like Debate, Painting and screening of inspirational movies were conducted. Senior and decorated Army Officers interacted with the cadets during the camp to motivate them. The cadets were exposed to the conduct of Social Services and Community development programs like Tree Plantation and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. A visit to National Hydro Electric Power Corporation, Boniyar was also organized during the camp,” he said.

The spokesperson further said: “Major General Virendra Vats, General Officer Commanding, Dagger Division visited the camp on 15 March 2021, wherein he was given the Guard of Honour by the cadets. Thereafter, he inspected the training norms being followed in the camp. GOC gave a motivational talk, interacted with the cadets over a cup of tea and felicitated the meritorious cadets. The GOC assured all kinds of support for regular conduct of training for NCC cadets in this sector.”

“Overall, the camp was a huge success in these difficult times and boosted confidence in the cadets. There was enthusiasm and smiles on the faces of the Cadets. The cadets expressed their happiness in sustained conduct of regular NCC training in the home town of North Kashmir and appreciated the endeavors undertaken by the Army,” he added.

All units briefed about threat posed by sticky bombs during Amarnath Yatra: IG CRPF

Inspector General (IG) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Jammu P S Ranpise Monday said that all units have been briefed about the threat posed by sticky bombs during the Amarnath Yatra.

Talking with reporters after inaugurating a free medical camp organised by the 16th Battalion in Sidhra, Ranpise said all necessary arrangements are being made to ensure successful Amarnath Yatra this year which is likely to witness heavy rush.

“We are already alert and are ready to face any challenges. All units have been briefed about the threat posed by sticky bombs and all arrangements are being made to make Yatra successful this year as it is likely to witness a heavy rush of pilgrims,” he said.

Ranpise said that security arrangements regarding Amarnath Yatra have been discussed with the police administration.

“The CRPF is trying its best to meet all the arrangements,” he said.

Ranpise said that a large number of forces were already deployed on the Jammu and Kashmir highway. “At the same time, using technology, drones and other modern equipment will also be included in the security arrangements, so that no hassle will be encountered during this yatra,” he said. “CPRPF personnel would also be given training on Amarnath Yatra.”

According to the Amarnath Yatra Shrine Board, the Amarnath Yatra will continue from June 28 to August 22.

The annual Amarnath Yatra was cancelled last year due to the Code-19 epidemic and a live telecast were arranged to provide devotees with a virtual view. Earlier, the administration had decided to hold the yatra from July 21 to August 3, but the decision was later withdrawn.

Bandipora family protests outside SMHS hospital Sgr

Allege murder of their daughter by in-laws, say she was given some poisonous substance over dowry issues

SRINAGAR, MARCH 15 :

A family from north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday staged a protest outside Srinagar’s SMHS hospital against the alleged murder of their daughter by her in-laws over dowry issue.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the family and relatives of the lady from Panzigam, Pahalwanpora area of Bandipora assembled outside the hospital here. Amid tears, sobs, they demanded immediate action against the in-laws of their daughter for allegedly murdering her by giving some poisonous substance.

Bashir Ahmad Khan, father of the deceased lady, alleged that she was given poisonous substance by her in-laws over dowry issues. “From time to time, we have been fulfilling their demands of dowry,” he said.

He added that two years back when his daughter delivered a baby boy, some issues occurred within the two families over dowry, adding that the husband of his daughter was demanding a car and other things from them.

“My son-in-law, who hails from Rampora area of Bandipora was very innocent, but he was misguided by his parents, thus started demanding dowry from us. We although decided to give him a house as gift, but only 18 days after my daughter went to her in-laws house after two and a half year long problem, she has been killed there as she was given some poisonous substance,” he said, adding that such is the height that her in-laws left the hospital after she died instead of taking her to the house for last rites.

He said that he has even sold his land to fulfill the demands of his daughter’s in-laws.

Meanwhile, the family demanded strict action against the in-laws of their deceased daughter and said the concerned authorities should act swiftly so that the culprits are brought to book immediately—(KNO)

Top official expresses displeasure over low COVID-19 testing in Kashmir

A top official of Jammu & Kashmir administration has expressed displeasure over a meagre number of symptomatic cases being tested for COVID-19 in Kashmir Valley.

Official documents in possession of news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reveal that divisional commissioner Kashmir, P.K. Pole has expressed displeasure over a meagre number of symptomatic cases being tested for COVID-19 by the districts during the last four weeks. “The divisional commissioner Kashmir took a serious note of rapid decline in Rapid Antigen Testing in districts and directed the CMOs to enhance testing as per revised targets besides keeping ratio of RAT and RT-PCR in proportion as per government guidelines,” reads record note of a meeting held on 9th of this month to review COVID-19 mitigation measures in Kashmir Valley.

In the meeting, according to the record note, divisional commissioner Kashmir directed all the chief medical officers (CMOs) to increase the testing of symptomatic patients visiting hospitals.

The divisional commissioner has also directed the authorities to make contact tracing of positive cases more effective.

“In view of the recent rise in number of corona virus cases in some states and spike in positivity rate among travellers, raising apprehensions, it has been directed that district contract tracing teams shall more pro-actively and trace at least 15 contacts for each positive person to make contact tracing more effective besides breaking the chain of infection,” the record note further states.

The divisional commissioner also directed the authorities to carry internal audit of COVID-19 related logistics like testing kits, oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators etc—(KNO)

DC B’la Visits Landslide Affected Area, Took Stock of the Situation

Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Bhupinder Kumar accompanied by concerned officers today paid visit to upper reaches of the district where he took appraisal of the situation emerged due to landslides. These landslides were caused due to recent incessant rains that lashed the valley.

Bhupinder Kumar visited Katyawali and its adjoining villages where several houses have been damaged due to landslides. The DC took a detailed review of the situation during which he directed to make complete assessment of the losses.

DC also stressed to make necessary arrangements for the affected families so that they didn’t face any inconvenience. He further exhorted upon the concerned agencies to put in place a viable mechanism especially for land slide prone areas so that loss is minimized during any kind of natural disaster.
