Thirty-five fresh COVID-19 related deaths were reported in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir since last night, thus taking total number of Coronavirus deaths to 2,318.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that thirty five patients who died include 50-year-old woman from Ashpeer Sopore, 52-year-old woman from Kokernag, 75-year-old man from Solina, 62-year-old man from Hyderpora, 55-year-old man from Nowgam, 75-year-old woman from Barbarshah, 73-year-old female from Sanatnagar, 80-year-old man from Lal Bazar, 25-year-old youth from Natipora, 50-year-old man from Kathidarwaza, 60-year-old man from Karan Nagar, Old aged man from Shopian, 70-year-old man from Pandach, two from Srinagar, one from Kupwara and nineteen from Jammu division.
An official said that 52-year-old lady from Kokernag, 73-year-old woman from Sanatnagar, 25-year-old youth from Natipora, 50-year-old man from Kathidarwaza, 60-year-old man from Karan Nagar and 70-year-old man from Pandach died at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute Of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) died since last night days after testing positive for COVID-19.
He added that a 75-year-old man from Solina, 62-year-old man from Hyderpora, 55-year-old male from Nowgam, 75-year-old woman from Barbarshah and 80-year-old man from Lal Bazar died at SMHS Hospital.
He further added that two patients from Srinagar died at JLNM Hospital Rainawari and one each at DH Shopian, SDH Sopore and SDH Kupwara.
Moreover, sixteen patients died at GMC Jammu since last night and three patients from Poonch also died at GMC Rajouri.
With thirty-five fresh deaths, the total fatalities count soars to 2,318, including 908 from Jammu division and 1,410 from Kashmir division—(KNO)
DC says ten centres established, only those who register themselves will be vaccinated, no shortage of vaccine

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar Muhammad Aijaz Asad on Saturday kick-started the COVID vaccination drive here at Shri Maharaj Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital for the people between age group of 18-45 years saying that the eligible people must get themselves registered and that nobody will get inoculation without registering for the vaccination.
According to the news agency—Kashmir news Observer (KNO), Asad while talking to media persons on the sidelines of the launching of the drive, said that a total of ten designated centers have been set up by the district administration where the people above the age of 18-45 will be vaccinated.
The designated centers include Sub centre Natipora, UPHC Nishat, SMHS hospital, SKIMS Soura, G B Pant hospital, Boys Secondary School NIT, Miranda School Chinkral Mohalla, Community hall, health centre Miskeen Bagh and Government higher Secondary School Batamaloo.
“The number of designated centres will be increased soon,” he said, adding that the people must get themselves registered on Co-Win portal, saying that nobody will be vaccinated until and unless getting him/herself registered.
Pertinently, Jammu and Kashmir has announced a free of cost vaccine for the people falling in the age group of 18-45.
Asked about the reports regarding shortage of vaccine, DC Srinagar said that there was no shortage at all and the number of people getting vaccinated every day is higher in Srinagar than other districts of the Union Territory. “The Covishield has arrived in ample quantity and there is no shortage,” he said.
While quoting the health experts, he said that vaccine is the magic bullet as it is the ultimate protection against the virus. There is a need to follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) in letter and spirit—(KNO)
Former Vice-Chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri Prof. Irshad Ahmad Hamal has left for heavenly abode on Saturday morning.
Hamal had taken ill briefly before passing away this morning, a close relative of the top-academician told Srinagar-based news agency Global News Service (GNS).
Meanwhile incumbent Vice Chancellor of the varsity Prof. Akbar Masood, Senior functionaries and faculty members have condoled the demise.
Recalling the contribution of Prof. Hamal as the Vice Chancellor of BGSBU ( 2010-2015) Prof. Akbar Masood in his condolence message credited Hamal for his several academic and developmental initiatives in the varsity.
Prof. Akbar said that the contribution of Prof. Hamal in the growth and development of the University would always be remembered.
Praying for eternal peace to the departed soul, Akbar said, ” I am deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Prof. Irshad Ahmed Hamal. It is moment of grief and loss for the entire BGSBU fraternity. A 25-year-old youth was among 25 people who succumbed to the covid-19 since last evening in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.
They said that sixteen of these deaths were reported from GMC Jammu while nine were reported from Kashmir.
The 25-year-old youth from Natipora Srinagar died at SKIMS Soura, two days after he was admitted to the tertiary care hospital, the officials told GNS.
A 50-year-old man from Kathidarwaz Srinagar also died at SKIMS, nearly a week after he was admitted there, they said.
A 60-year-old man from Karannagar Srinagar died a day after he was admitted to SKIMS, they said.
A 73-year-old woman from Sanatnagar died five days after she was admitted to SKIMS, they said.
An 80-year-old man from Umer Colony Lal Bazar Srinagar who was admitted to SMHS hospital on April 27 died at the facility, they said.
Also, they said, a 75-year-old man from Solina Payeen Srinagar, a 62-year-old man from Hyderpora and a 55-year-old from Wanabal Nowgam died at SMHS hospital.
A 50-year-old woman from Hangalpora died at GMC Anantnag , less than a day after she was admitted there, they said.
Also, a 37-year-old man from Bihar was brought dead to GMC Anantnag and tested positive for covid-19, they said. However, his death would not be counted among the fatalities in J&K, they said.
With these fresh deaths, the number of people succumbing to the virus has gone up to 2308 in J&K—905 in Jammu and 1403 in Kashmir. (GNS)
Authorities have asked individuals above 18 years of age to get their first jab as Covaxin vaccine was being launched, later in the day, in capital cities of Jammu and Kashmir.
An official, privy to the development, told news agency Global News Service that the inaugural drive in Summer-capital Srinagar will be held at Immunization Clinic (at Pain Clinic, near JK Bank, ENT/Opthalmology OPD Building, SMHS Hospital Srinagar at 4:00 PM.
Those individuals having themselves Pre-registered for the vaccine (Covaxin) shall get their first jab, the official said.
The official has in the meantime advised those already inoculated of Covishield to get their second dose of the particular (Covisheld) vaccine only. (GNS)
44662 Infections, 285 Fatalities Reported In April

Jammu and Kashmir recorded highest-ever single-day surge of 3532 covid-19 cases while 30 more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Friday.
Among the fresh cases, they said, 1172 were from Jammu Division and 2360 from Kashmir, taking the overall case tally to 176083. The active case tally soared to 28359—10660 in Jammu and 17699 in Kashmir Valley.
In April, 44662 cases and 285 deaths were reported, highest ever during any month since the pandemic started in March last year.
Regarding the deaths, they said, 17 were from Jammu Division and 13 from Kashmir, taking the overall toll to 2283—889 in Jammu and 1394 in the Valley.
Among the victims include two women, aged 25-years and 27-years respectively.
A senior official told GNS that among the deaths reported in Jammu, mostly died at GMC Jammu while two others were brought dead and tested positive posthumously. “Of the two persons brought dead was a 27-year-old woman,” the official said.
Among others, the victims from Valley include a 25-year-old woman from Shankarpora Anantnag who died at SKIMS Soura here, two days after she was admitted to the tertiary care hospital, the officials said here.
The others include a 54-year-old woman from Eidgah Srinagar died at SMHS hospital, a 45-year-old man from Batmaloo also died at SMHS hospital, a 65-year-old man from Shivpora Srinagar , a 65-year-old man Bagh-e-Mehtab Srinagar , a 70-year-old man from Rangwar Baramulla , a 95-year-old man from Rajbagh Srinagar, a 65-year-old woman from Bagh-e-Mehtab Srinagar who died at CD hospital, a 60-year-old man from Natipora Srinagar and a 55-year-old man from Bogund Kulgam.

Government of Jammu and Kashmir Friday ordered transfers in patient-care sector in Jammu division.
An order in this regard, a replica of which lies with news agency Global News Service (GNS), states that Dr. Manoj Chalotra, Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital, Jammu is being transferred and posted as Medical Superintendent, Super Specialty Hospital, Jammu, against an already available vacancy.
Dr. Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent, Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, is being transferred and posted as Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital, Jammu, vice Dr. Manoj Chalotra, the order states.
Dr. A.D.S Manhas, Incharge Epidemiologist, presently posted as Programme Manager NHM, also holding the charge of State Surveillance Officer, is transferred and posted as Medical Superintendent, Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu vice Dr. Dara Singh.
Manhas, as per the order, will continue to hold the charge of State Surveillance Officer. (GNS)
The Government of India has started importing the vital drug Remdesivir from other countries to ease out the shortage of Remdesivir in the country. The first Consignment of 7,5000 vials will reach India today.
According to an official statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), HLL Lifecare Ltd, a Government of India owned company has ordered 4,50,000 vials of Remdesivir from M/s Gilead Sciences Inc USA. and Egyptian Pharma Company, M/s Eva Pharma.
It is expected that Gilead Sciences Inc. USA will dispatch 75,000 to 1,00,000 vials in the next one or two days. Further one hundred thousand quantities will also be supplied before or by May 15. EVA pharma will supply approximately 10,000 vials initially followed by 50,000 vials every 15 days or till July.
Government has ramped up the production capacity of Remdesivir in the country. As on 27.04.21, the production capacity of the seven licensed domestic manufacturers has increased from 38 lakh vials per month to 1.03 crore vials per month. Total 13.73 lakh vials have been supplied across the country by the Drug companies in the last seven days (21-28 April, 2021). The daily supply has gone up from 67,900 vials on 11th April to 2.09 lakh vials on 28th April, 2021. An advisory was issued by MHA to states and UTs to facilitate smooth movement of Remdesivir supplies.
Government also prohibited export of Remdesivir to enhance its availability in India. To ensure affordability of the injection among the masses, NPPA on April 17, 2021 released the revised maximum retail price thus bringing down the cost of all the major brands to below Rs 3500 per vial.
In order to facilitate higher production and availability of Remdesivir, the Department of Revenue vide Notification 27/2021-Customs dated 20th April exempted the whole of the duty of Customs on Remdesivir injection, its API and Beta cyclodextrin used in manufacture of Remdesivir, till 31st October 2021.
National Treatment Protocol was updated through the Clinical guidance for Management of Adult COVID 19 patients by AIIMS/ ICMR- COVID-19 National Task Force/ Joint Monitoring group of MoHFW on 22.04.2021. Uri (Baramulla), Apr 30: The office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) continues to lie headless even after nearly two weeks into transfer of erstwhile magistrate, causing huge inconvenience to the local resident
People of the border sub division Uri said that public works have come to a grinding halt after the erstwhile SDM Reyaz Ahmad Malik was transferred – Malik, who had the additional charge of Custodian Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) and Sub Registrar Uri, was transferred on April 18 and posted as Joint Director, Hospitality and Protocol, Kashmir.
“The erstwhile SDM was transferred some twelve days before but we fail to understand that why no one has been sent to replace him” Imran Ahmad, a local, said.
Amid absence of the office-bearer, the people have to face a great sort of difficulties, he lamented.
Interestingly, the Tehsil Office Uri is also headless as the incumbent Tehsildar Syed Kursheed Ahmad is yet to report the office after he tested positive for Covid February 9 this year. It was only after persuasion by the local residents that Tehsildar Boiniyar was assigned with additional charges of the Tehsil.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Bhupinder Kumar said that the matter has already been taken up with the government and under active consideration. “We expect a new SDM very soon,” the district administrator said.
Meanwhile Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, General Administration Department, J&K Manoj Kumar Dwivedi in the meantime said that a proposal is being prepared in this regard. Seconding the statement of DC Baramulla, Dwivedi “Hopefully, the new SDM will be posted in the next few days.” (GNS)
Private Diagnostic Centers in Kashmir have offered the administration their free human resources and logistics in testing and vaccination to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic challenge.
In a letter of support to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, the Private Diagnostic Centers Association president, Umar Iqbal Dhar, told News Agency that the association will assist voluntarily the administration in the challenging situation.
“I urge you to utilize our services in testing and vaccination of people in the Valley. We urge the government to provide us testing kits and vaccination and we will offer free human resources and other utilities for this process. This is out of human gesture,” Dhar wrote to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P K Pole.
“It will reduce rush on health centers and hospitals and will reduce the workload on the health care workers of the government,” he said.
Sources in the administration said that the Divisional Commissioner has asked the officials concerned to explore the possibility.
