Jammu Kashmir Government Thursday asked some sections of media to act sensibly and stop scaring people.
In a hurried called press conference at the office of Directorate of Information and Public Relations on Thursday late evening, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Baseer Khan said that some quarters in media are trying to give an impression that there is shortage of Oxygen supply in Kashmir hospital which is totally untrue and baseless.
“Neither there is shortage of Oxygen nor there is shortage of any medicine,” Khan as per news agency Kashmir News Trust said.
He said it is not good to present Covid-19 related management in bad light.
“Let me tell you in our Union Territory we have 20 tons of Oxygen available which is sufficient to meet any demand. There should be no room for any doubt,’ Baseer Khan said.
Khan said Jammu and Kashmir is at first position where one crore 25 lakh vaccines are coming. UP is at 2nd place as for as vaccine procurement is concerned.
While talking about the reports that Ramdesivir vaccine is not available in ample quantity, Baseer Khan said that this vaccine is available in sufficient quantity and it is being provided and offered at places where needed. “There are some quarters who want to give an impression that there is scarcity of medicine. We are in the process of identifying those quarters,” he said.
Khan said that Tocilizumab drug is in pipeline and is arriving in Kashmir Valley. “We have placed the order for Tocilizumab drug and this drug is coming in sufficient quantity.

The Covid vaccination process for all above 18 years of age will start in Jammu and Kashmir in next 15-20 days and the people coming in this age-group must register themselves for the same.
Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), exclusively, Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education, J&K, Atal Dulloo people all above 18 years of age can register themselves for Covid vaccination from now onwards.
“Covid vaccination process for people having age between 18-44 will take around 15-20 days,” he said.
He said that as the Centre was providing vaccines to states/UTs for healthcare workers, front line workers and people with age above 45 years, however, centre has now asked states/UTs to purchase vaccines from manufacturer companies directly.
He said: “We have taken up the matter with both manufacturer companies working in India who informed us that their first priority will be to implement orders of the Central government and provide supply to States/UTs. It will take around 15 to 20 days.”
He said that there is an adequate quantity of vaccines available in J&K for people above 45 years and they will continue to get vaccines in this period.
Dulloo said that people can register and will get appointments soon after once vaccines will be available for them.
He said: “We have approached DRDO to build two hospitals with capacity of 500 beds each so that it can increase our oxygen supported bed capacity besides ICU supported bed capacity which in turn will help us in treating Covid-19 patients with more-better facilities and land for the both hospitals has been already identified.”
He said that authorities have been directed to ensure hassle free movement of the people going for Covid vaccination and Covid testing, however, people must avoid going out unnecessarily.
Duloo further added that more hospitals in coming days will be designated as Covid dedicated hospitals.
Asked that non-Covid patients with critical illnesses are suffering as most of the hospitals have already closed OPDs, he said that most people are avoiding visits to hospitals because they are afraid of contracting virus. However, he said that patients requiring emergency treatment and patients with critical illnesses are being treated.
He requested people that whenever they get appointment for Covid vaccination, get it at an earliest as it can save you from getting severe infection—(KNO)
‘2000 more beds with oxygen supply will be available in coming days’

The present oxygen generation capacity in different hospitals of Kashmir division is 6500 litres per minute which is now being increased as new oxygen plants are being installed in every district hospital.
Financial Commissioner Health J&K Atal Dulloo while talking exclusively with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) told that the new oxygen plants are being installed in every district hospital of Jammu and Kashmir besides associated hospitals of Government Medical College Jammu and Kashmir and some sub district hospitals.
He said that at present the capacity of oxygen supply in Kashmir division alone is 6500 litres per minute excluding manifold and oxygen cylinders.
“In Jammu and Kashmir we have 3000 beds which have oxygen supply and with each passing day the number of such beds is increasing,” Duloo said.
He further added that with the completion of new oxygen plants at district hospitals, J&K will get two thousand more beds with oxygen supply.
Duloo said that the all 36 oxygen plants that were approved recently for Jammu and Kashmir will get completed in next few days.
Pertinently J&K is witnessing steep surge in Covid-19 cases and deaths from the last one fortnight mainly.

Says vaccine reduces severity, everybody must take a jab, sooner the better

Jammu and Kashmir’s renowned influenza expert and Head of the Department at Covid designated chest diseases Hospital, Srinagar, Dr Naveed Nazir Shah Wednesday said that “anti-virals” are the best treatment to the Covid while as there is no alternative to vaccines as it reduces severity among affected patients.
Dr Naveed as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said the antiviral drugs are advantageous as same are being administered to the people who contract virus.
“Anti-viral drugs coupled with oxygen helps the patents a lot. Antiviral drugs used in severe to moderate cases have shown that they could reduce the virus,” he said, adding that “All antiviral drugs are being administered to the people and there are good results so far.”
He said antiviral could help COVID-19 positive patients to recover quickly and go back to home.
“Antiviral drugs could reduce the virus but may not prevent mortality; one can be quickly discharged from the hospital with the help of antiviral as the same helps COVID-19 positive patients to recover quickly,” he added.
He said there is no alternative to vaccines as the same reduces severity among the patients who contract the virus. “Taking a jab will definitely help Covid positive patients to stay away from the ICUs,” Dr Naveed said. Pertinently, he is the frontline Covid warrior who spoke to Prime Minister Narendera Modi during Man Ki Baat Program on the subject of panic management. Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha Thursday chaired a meeting with the office-bearers and volunteers of Indian Red Cross Society, J&K through virtual mode.
The Lt Governor acknowledged the significant role played by Indian Red Cross Society, and lauded the Volunteers for their selflessness and dedicated service towards the public.
He called upon them to renew their commitment and determination in complementing Government’s efforts to speed up the vaccination drive and tackle the challenges of Covid pandemic.
With the collaborative efforts, we can contribute and play our part in helping those affected during the pandemic, added the Lt Governor.
In the wake of second wave of Corona virus, the Lt Governor asked the IRCS to carry on their humanitarian activities and reach out to people, especially those living in remote and far flung areas, and help the administration in providing food, medical assistance and other essential items to the needy.
Having a strong team of volunteers in all 20 districts of the Union Territory, the Red Cross volunteers delivered food, medicines, and clothes to at least 30,000 families across J&K during the COVID-19 pandemic last year, which is praiseworthy, said the Lt Governor.
The Lt Governor assured all possible support of the Administration to the Indian Red Cross Society in their noble cause.
Speaking on the preparedness of the UT Government to handle the ongoing pandemic, the Lt Governor observed that the people of J&K need not panic. We are equipped to deal with the emerging situation. One crore twenty lakh doses are ordered for vaccination of 18 to 45 age-group. Many Oxygen generation plants have become operational and remaining will also start functioning soon. The availability of oxygen is more than double the requirement. We have 54,500 cubic metres of oxygen against the present consumption i.e 25,000 cubic metres, besides 15,000 cubic metres more will be added to the count in coming days, the Lt Governor maintained.
Emphasizing on dissemination of information with regard to the Covid pandemic, the Lt Governor asked the IRCS and its volunteers to make people aware about all the Do’s and Don’ts of Covid. There are many out there who are propagating misinformation among the people, which needs to be countered with facts, he added.
Use various media of communication and rope in religious leaders, health workers to spread awareness among people in their local languages. Create JK Covid care groups, besides inform people about expert opinions, usage of double face masks & hand sanitizers. IRCS Volunteers can provide details regarding vaccination, SoPs, precautionary measures, Covid Helpline numbers, home isolation etc and encourage them to stay at home, and worship at home, the Lt Governor urged the volunteers.
Earlier, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Honorary General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) J&K gave a brief overview about the activities being carried out by the IRCS during Covid pandemic.

Analyzing the ramifications of restrictions and lockdown amid the surge of COVID-19 and its impact on the society in general and the labor class in particular, Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum, has asked the social activists, volunteers and, welfare groups and the NGOs to coordinate and strategize a crisis management system of schemes to help and rehabilitate the affected people in the ongoing and future times of the possible crisis due to the prevalent situation wherein the economy is desperately suffering and the labors and roadside vendors are worst hit.
In a statement issued here, JKCSF Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani has asked all JKCSF volunteers to coordinate with the other welfare organizations and working- NGOs and extend a helping hand to them in assisting the poor especially the affected lot of labor class due to the partial, full or containment type of lockdowns in J and K. JKCSF Chairman advised Forum volunteers to get engaged with Baitulmal, Masjid and Mohalla committees as may be applicable to help the needy in every nook and corner J and K in rehabilitation and educating of SOPs. Wani suggested that health department should come forward to train the volunteers and social activists for different kinds of first-aids and handling of oxygen cylinders, proper way of wearing of masks and other necessary medical equipment to meet the challenges put forth by the emerging pandemic crisis.

He will be interacting with experts and officials through video-conferencing while in isolation at his official residence.
