Authorities Deny Link-up With Newly Discovered UK-Strain; 10 Samples from Jammu Sent to Delhi for Genome Sequencing

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 9 :
Two persons returning from United Kingdom (England) have been tested positive for COVID19 infection here on Saturday.
Nodal Officer for COVID19 at JLNM, Dr. Bilquees Shah told GNS that the samples of two UK returnee travellers, from Habak and Soura localities, were found positive for COVID19 virus at SKIMS Soura and both of them are currently admitted at JLNM Hospital.
When asked about the probability of the duo being found positive for the newly-discovered UK-strain, the official however said that “the sample(s) study of both the patients have suggested no link-up with the UK strain.”
In the meantime Dr. Manhas, ADS State surveillance Officer IDSP Jammu while talking to GNS said that samples of two persons in Jammu, one of which was a traveller from UK and another his contact, were found negative for the newly-discoverd strain.
“We have ten more people admitted at a Jammu hospital whose tests have been sent to Delhi for Genome Sequencing”, the official said adding “All these tests are being conducted as per the guidelines of central government to avert any exigency.” (GNS)
