BARAMULLA, APRIL 03:

Taking cognizance of a consumer grievance, Legal Metrology Department Baramulla imposed a fine of Rs. 100000 upon an agricultural spray oil manufacturing company for violating labelling norms.

Earlier, a consumer lodged a complaint against the manufacturer alleging pasting of individual stickers on packages of the spray oil intended to alter the date of manufacture of the spray oil thereby adversely affecting the quality of the spray oil. It was also alleged that the consumer care details provided on the packages are not correct due to which the aggrieved consumer could not seek redress of his grievance at manufacturer level and was, therefore, forced to approach the Department instead.

After conducting inspection of the product in question, Department found the consumer grievance to be genuine and a Seizure Memo was issued against the manufacturer for violation of Section 18 and Section 36 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. The matter was then taken up with the company which, in turn, requested for compounding of the offence. Ultimately, a compounding fee of Rupees One Lakh was recovered from the company.

Consumers are asked to assert their rights and approach Legal Metrology Department for redress of their grivances. Consumers of Baramulla District can register their genuine grievances at official email ID of the Department: aclmbaramulla@gmail.com for proper redress as provided under Law.
