At least 4 soldiers sustained injuries in a mysterious blast in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Police said they are ascertaining the facts and the nature of the blast. “Soldiers from 24 Rashtriya Rifles were passing close to a school building, when blast occurred. Four soldiers sustained injuries while roof of the school building suffered partial damage,” said an official.
He told KNT that there were minimum presence of people when the blast occurred. “We are trying to find out whether it was a grenade blast or and IED had been planted there. It is subject to investigation,” he said.
Another police official said that prima facie it seems to be an IED blast.
The blast took place in Subhanpora, Shamsipora area along Srinagar-Jammu Highway in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The injured soldiers were airlifted to Srinagar based 92 Base Army Hospital where the condition of a soldier is stated to be critical.

Barring Srinagar and Kokernagr, the mercury dropped slightly across Kashmir Valley, the weatherman said on Wednesday.
A meteorological department official told GNS that Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, recorded a low of minus 2.0°C against minus 2.4°C on the previous night.
The minimum temperatures have consistently remained far below normal this season. On January 14, Srinagar witnessed the season’s coldest night at minus 8.4°C which was the chilliest one in more than 25 years. In 1991, Srinagar witnessed a low of minus 11.8°C while the lowest ever temperature was recorded on 31 January 1893 when the mercury had plummeted to minus 14.4 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the mercury settled at minus 7.7°C in Pahalgam against minus 7.1°C on the previous night in the world-famous health resort.
Qazigund, the gateway town of J&K, recorded a low of minus 4.4°C against 2.8°C on the previous night while Kokernag recorded a minimum of minus 8.3°C against 9.0°C on the earlier night.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 12.0°C against 11.5°C earlier night, the official said.
The mercury settled at minus 2.0°C in the in Kupwara against minus 1.4°C on the previous night, the official said.
Kashmir is in the middle Chillai-Kalan, the 40-day winter period which commenced on December 21 and ends on January 31. The period is considered the harshest of the winter when the chances of snowfall are most frequent and maximum.
The cold wave, however, continues even after that in Kashmir with a 20-day-long ‘Chillai-Khurd’ (small cold) and a 10-day-long ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold).
The weatherman has forecast mainly dry weather with morning mist in the plains of J&K for the next 24 hours. The weather is likely to stay dry till January 31, the MeT official added. (GNS)
In the wake of the violence in the national capital, the US Embassy here advised American government personnel to avoid areas where clashes have been reported between farmers and police, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large groups, protests or demonstrations. A tractor march protesting against the three new agriculture laws descended into anarchy as tens of thousands of protesters clashed with police in multiple places, leading to chaos in well-known landmarks of Delhi and suburbs. One person was killed and several were injured in the clashes.
Putting out an advisory, the US Embassy said, “Media outlets are reporting clashes between New Delhi Police and protesting farmers throughout areas of Delhi including the northern border of Delhi, areas along the Republic Day parade route, and downtown areas near the India Gate.”
“US government personnel have been advised to avoid these areas, stay at home, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large groups, protests, or demonstrations,” the advisory said.
The advisory in its ‘action to take’ segment said that avoid the northern Delhi border, the Republic Day parade route, and downtown areas near the India Gate.
“Avoid crowds. Avoid demonstrations. Monitor local media for updates. Be aware of your surroundings. Review your personal security plans. Heed instructions from law enforcement officials,”it read. (PTI)

Uri, Jan 26: The 72nd Republic Day 2021 celebration was held with great zeal and enthusiasm in sub-division Uri on Tuesday.
The main function was celebrated in officer Club Uri where SDM Uri Reyaz Ahmad Malik unfurled the tricolor. The SDM inspected the parade march and took salute on the occasion.
The parade was presented by the contingents of J&K Police, CISF, NCC cadets.
Meanwhile, various colorful cultural programmes were presented by Girls Higher Secondary School Uri, Sunshine school Uri and a performance by Zahoor Gillani. The event evoked applause from the audience.
Speaking on the occasion, the SDM Uri Reyaz Ahmad Malik extended his warm greetings to the people and highlighted the importance of R- Day in the history of India.
He also highlighted various initiatives taken by the Uri administration to combat the challenge of COVID-19 pandemic.

Baramulla: Human Aid Society was conferred ‘Commendation Award’ for outstanding performance in the field of public service during 72th Republic Day function held in Baramulla.
The award was conferred to Chairman Human Aid Society Bashir Ahmad Mir by Additional District Development Commissioner Baramulla Aijaz Abdullah Saraaf who was flanked by ADC, ACR and DIG Baramulla.
“It’s a matter of pride that Human Aid Society the only NGO has been honoured with Commendation Certificate on 72th Republic day held at District Police Lines Baramulla for the outstanding performance in the field of public service,” said Bashir Ahmad Mir Chairman.
“I congratulate and laud the efforts of the volunteers and members of the organization for working tirelessly for 22 years due to which the organization has established it’s faith among general public. This award goes to entire society,” he added.

J&K LG Manoj Sinha while highlighting the series of developmental steps taken by the Government India in the UT, counted successful and violence-free DDC polls as one of the biggest achievements of the government.
As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the LG while addressing R-Day gathering at Jammu, said: “For a long time, the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir were denied grassroots democracy. We have been successful in conducting a violence free, free and fair elections to District Development Councils.
The high turnout of voters broke the records of many previous elections. I specially congratulate the enlightened citizens, all voters, Central Security Forces, Army, Police and Administrative officials for this. We assure all the elected representatives that with your support, the Jammu and Kashmir Administration will bring the fruits of development to the last person “
He said: “I bow down to the bravery of police personnel and our security forces working day and night to create a conducive atmosphere for smooth day-to-day life and maintaining a peaceful environment. On behalf of entire Jammu and Kashmir, I pay homage to all the warriors who have sacrificed everything for the honour of our Tricolour.”
The LG further said that “we want to assure all citizens that the political conspiracies and nefarious designs of a neighbouring country will never be allowed to succeed in this land of great persons and warriors. The security agencies have effectively controlled violence and those who are trying to fulfil their political motives with the help of this proxy war, are being given a befitting reply.”
In Srinagar, LG’s advisor Baseer Ahmed Khan said that with Centre’s support, J&K on a new path peace, progress and development. “We will leave no stone unturned to ensure peaceful and progressive J&K,” he said and highlighted series of developmental initiatives in J&K.
BJP General Secretary (Organisation), Ashok Koul said that very soon Statehood will be given to the J&K. “Delimitation commission has started its process and it will soon complete its report,” Koul told reporters in Srinagar.

A total of 20 people, comprising both policemen and farmers, are being treated at the Lok Nayak Hospital following clashes near the ITO crossing in central Delhi on Tuesday as some farmers deviated from the route of their tractor rally and drove into the city, officials said.
The Delhi government-run hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ritu Saxena, told IANS that eight policemen and 12 farmers are currently receiving treatment and a few of them have sustained serious injuries.
“Some have fractured their legs, hands and also suffered blows on their heads. We are treating them in an emergency ward,” she said.
“However, no one is in critical condition,” she added.
Saxena said that they will be discharged soon as all of them are in stable health condition.
Dramatic scenes were witnessed on Tuesday after the agitating farmers clashed with the Delhi Police near ITO, with the police firing the tear gas shells and carrying out baton charges to disperse them.
The farmers, who started their ‘Kisan Gantantra parade’ much ahead of their scheduled timing entered the national capital defying the agreement of the scheduled time of tractor rally and creating multiple fronts at Karnal Bypass, Mukarba Chowk, Transport Nagar, Akshardham, Gazipur and Tikri border and some farmers armed with swords were also seen clashing with the police.
As soon as the farmers reached the ITO intersection and tried to move towards the Red Fort, many of the farmers clashed with the police personnel and attacked them with sticks and iron rods. The farmers also damaged several vehicles with their tractors. (IANS)
