KCCI vice president Dr. Abdul Majid Mir dies in road accident in Delhi

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 6 :

Vice president of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dr. Abdul Majid Mir died in an accident in New Delhi, reports said on Wednesday.

A resident of Rawalpora Srinagar, reports said that the 72-year-old was in New Delhi from last few days.

Dead body of woman stuck on Dangiwacha-Bakhipora road closed by snow

Baramulla: While authorities claim to have put men and machinery on job clear roads closed by snow, however, a dead body of a lady is stuck and couldn’t reach home for  Dangiwacha-Bakhipora road is closed due to snow.


Sources said that a woman Haleema Begum of Bakhipora died in Srinagar hospital and her dead body was brought in Ambulance from Srinagar hospital but  Bakhipora road closed due to snow.


” This is irony and sorry state of affairs as our dead too have to  wait on roads closed by snow,” said Mohmmad Ashraf of Bakhipora.


A police official said that snow clearance on Bakhipora Dangiwacha road headed by SDPO Rafiabad Nisar Ahmad is going on and efforts are on to make the road clear so that the dead body could reach.

Three houses damaged by heavy snowfall in Uri

Baramulla: Atleast three residential houses were damaged due to heavy snowfall in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.

Official sources said that three residential houses damaged by snow belong to Syeda Raza Fatima widow of Syed Mozam shah , Syed Gulzar Hussain son Bagh Hussain residents of  Dhani Syedan  and Abdul Latief barwal son of Aliya Barwal of Nambla C  Uri.

A gigantic walnut tree falls on the two houses of in Deni Syedna causing large scale damage, an official said.

An official said that there was no loss of life or injury reported in the incident as the villagers reached the spot immediately and rescued the families.

A senior revenue officer said that instructions have been issued to a team constituted for the purpose to carry out the assessment of the damage caused by the snow.

Baramulla: Alert Beacon task force of 53 RCC rescued an ambulance along with a patient at midnight which got stuck in slippery snow accumlated on Srinagar-Uri highway near Veerwan Pandit Colony in Baramulla on the intervening night of 6 January.

Ambulance driver of PHC Boniyar said that health officials informed authorities of BEACON 53 RCC that an ambulance ferrying a patient got stuck  Srinagar-Uri highway near Veerwan Pandit Colony in Baramulla , immediately Beacon officer responded and a rescue operation was launched to rescue the ambulance.
” Machinery and workers were pressed in by Beacon to rescue my ambulance and patient safely. Clearance of road was done to provide safe passage  to the Ambulance and the patient till required,” he informed expressed gratitude to Beacon authorities for timely help.

When contacted Officiating Commandant (OC) BEACON 53 RCC , he said,”After hectic efforts Beacon men and machinery  worked at midnight in shivering temperatures and heavy snow  to extricate  the trapped ambulance at KM 59 on highway near Veerwan Pandit Migrant Colony near Baramulla.”

People and health authorities have hailed the efforts of BEACON officials and their prompt response.

Hizb-Narco case: NIA files supplementary charge sheet against two Pujab residents

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 05 :

National Investigation Agency (NIA), Tuesday filed a supplementary chargesheet agianst two Punjab residents for their inovelement in the Hizb-narco case.

In a statement issued here, the agency said that today (05.01.2021), NIA filed Supplementary Charge-sheet in Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) Narco- Case in the NIA Special Court, Mohali, Punjab u/s 120B, 419, 471, 201 IPC, sections 8 r/w 21, 27A and 29 of NDPS Act and sections 17, 18 & 20 of UA (P) Act against narco-militants Jaswant Singh alias Jassa r/o Gurdaspur and Gursant Singh  alias Gora r/o Tarn Taran, Punjab. Both the accused persons were involved in collection, distribution and selling of Heroin smuggled from Pakistan as also in collection and channelization of proceeds so generated for furthering the activities of HM.

“Accused Gursant Singh was one of the important members of militant gang and as a close associate of prime accused Iqbal Singh alias Shera was responsible for safe movement of Heroin and proceeds to various places/unknown persons.  Investigation has also brought out that he has purchased many immoveable properties and luxury cars to be used as hide outs and for transportation of drugs and proceeds,” the NIA statement issued to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

The statement said that earlier, a chargesheet was filed on 20.10.2020 against ten accused persons namely Hilal Ahmed Shergojri, r/o dist- Pulwama (J&K) (Arrested), Bikram Singh, r/o dist- Amritsar (Arrested),  Maninder Singh,  r/o dist- Amritsar (Arrested), Ranjit Singh, r/o dist- Gurdaspur (Arrested), Jaswant Singh,  r/o dist- Gurdaspur (Arrested), Ranjit Singh, r/o dist- Amritsar (Arrested), Gagandeep Singh, r/o dist- Amritsar (Arrested),  Iqbal Singh, r/o dist- Amritsar (Absconding), Zafar Hussain Bhat, r/o dist.- Anantnag (J&K), presently in Pakistan (Absconding) and Riyaz Ahmed Naikoo, r/o dist- Pulwama (J&K) (Killed) u/s 120B, 419, 471, 489C of IPC, sections 8, 21, 23, 12 24, 25, 27, 27A, 29 & 31 of NDPS Act, sections 17, 18, 20, 38 and 40 of UA(P) Act and section 12(1)(b) of Indian Passports Act in the Special NIA Court, Mohali, Punjab.

“This case arose out of PS Sadar Amritsar Case no. 135 dated 25.04.2020 pertaining to arrest of one Hilal Ahmed Shergojri and recovery of Rs. 29 Lacs from his possession, by Punjab Police on 25.04.2020. NIA took up the investigation of the case on 08.05.2020,” the statement said.

“During investigation by NIA, it emerged that accused Hilal, who had come to Amritsar to collect the amount of Rs 29 Lacs, was a member of proscribed militant organization Hizb-ul –Mujahideen (HM) and a close associate of Riyaz Ahmed Naikoo, the then HM commander of Kashmir Valley,” the statement added.

“This led to busting of a major Narco-terror module involved in smuggling and selling of Heroin in India and channelizing of drug-proceeds to Pakistan through hawala and to the HM militants based in J&K at the behest of  HM militants based in Pakistan,” the statement said, adding that further investigation against the absconding accused is on.

Anantnag admin suspends Medical Officer for remaining absent from duties

ANANTNAG, JANUARY 05 :

Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Kuldeep Krishan Sidha on Tuesday suspended Medical Officer PHC Khiram for remaining absent from duties and ordered a disciplinary action against him.
An order copy duly signed by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag KK Sidha, reads “Pending enquiry into the unauthorized absence from duties, Dr. Faheem Shah, Medical Officer, PHC Khiram is placed under suspension with immediate effect and attached with Block Medical Officer, Bijbehara”.
“Additional Deputy Commissioner (S) shall conduct an enquiry and furnish a detailed report within 5 days positively”, order reads. (KNS) 

Young PhD scholar dies of cardiac arrest in Chadoora

BUDGAM, JANUARY 05 :

A young PhD scholar dies of a heart attack during the intervening night of Tuesday at Bunhar Wathora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

According to reports reached to news agency— Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a 34-year-old Shakeel Ahmad Dar who recently received his PhD degree died in his sleep.

According to the locals, Dar after going to bed didn’t wake on Tuesday morning, so to check on him the family members entered in his room, only to find him dead.

” We have lost a great person. He was a very nice man. We met a few days ago and I didn’t know I would lose him so soon,” a friend of his said. ” A degree of PhD was awarded to him on 17 Dec 2020.”

Elderly people in the locality has also called his death a great loss for the village.

Dar was later buried in his native village, amid heavy snowfall—(KNO)

J&K Reports 137 Fresh Covid-19 cases, 6 Deaths In J&K

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 5 :

Three travelers were among 137 new covid-19 cases while six more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir, officials told GNS on Tuesday.

Among the fresh cases, they said, 71 cases were from Jammu Division while 66 from Kashmir Valley.

Giving district-wise details, they said, Srinagar reported 22 cases, Baramulla 5, Budgam 1, Kupwara 2,
Pulwama 18, Anantnag 5, Bandipora 2, Ganderbal 11, Kulgam 0, Shopian 0, Jammu 49, Udhampur 7, Rajouri 0, Doda 4, Kathua 5, Kishtwar 2, Samba 2, Poonch 0, Ramban 2 and Reasi 0.

Moreover, they said, 215 more Covid-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals— 105 from Jammu Division and 110 from Kashmir Valley. (GNS)

DMA issues fresh avalanche warning

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 5:

Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (DMA) today issued fresh medium and low level avalanche warnings for higher reaches of avalanche prone areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

As per a communiqué received in this regard, medium level avalanche warning has been issued for higher reaches of Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Anantnag, Kulgam, Kupwara and Bandipora districts besides Waltengu Nad, South and North portals of Jawahar Tunnel, Verinag, Kapran, Chowkibal-NC Pass, Gurez, Dawar and Neeru areas.

Similarly, low level avalanche warning has been issued for upper reaches of Udhampur, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Sonamarg – Zojila, Z-Gali- Kalaroose, Kanzalwan, Tangmarg and Gulmarg.

As such, people living in these avalanche prone areas are advised not to venture out to avoid loss of lives.

Fire incident at Hotel Welcome, Tourist safe


Hoteliers Club urges admin to provide all assistance

Srinagar, Jan 05:&K Hoteliers Club has expressed regret over the fire incident at Hotel Welcome in Srinagar. The hotel caught fire on Tuesday afternoon but due to the timely help of the locals and the authorities, the fire was doused immediately. The property belongs to senior vice president of JKHC Riyaz Shahdad. All the tourists were also safely rescued.
Chairman JK Hoteliers Club Mushtaq Chaya expressed sadness over the incident and expressed full sympathy to the owner.
Chaya also urged the administration to provide full support to the Hotel owners in this time of crisis.
General Secretary of the Club Tariq Rashid Ghani also urged the government to assess the fire incident loss and assist the hotelier for its refurbishing.
