A day after killing the Al-Badar Chief, Joint Forces killed 2 militants in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The encounter had started on Wednesday late evening when Joint Forces including the soldiers from 3 Rashtriya Rifles zeroed in a house at Kandipora village of Bijbehara town where militants were present.
The operation had been suspended for the night while flash lights had been installed to keep an eye on the movement of trapped militants.
An official told KNT that with the resumption of the operation on Thursday morning, there was an exchange of fire that led to the killing of 2 militants.
Unconfirmed sources identified the 2 slain militants as Adil Ahmad Bhat and Zahir Ameen Rather.
Inspector General of Police for Kashmie, Vijay Kumar while confirming the killing of these two militants said anti-militancy operations have been intensified.
In response to a question, Kumar said militancy is not on rise but operations against militants are on rise.
This was the 2nd encounter of the current month. A day before Al-Badar Chief Khawaja Ganaie was killed in Tujjar area of North Kashmir’s Sopore town of Baramulla district. (KNT)
Two minor cousin sisters who were allegedly kidnapped in Shopian district of south Kashmir have been recovered within 12 hours, officials said on Wednesday.
Soon after the sisters, both aged about 14 years, went missing, officials told GNS that a case FIR (No. 21/2021) under section 363 IPC (kidnapping) was registered in police station Zainapora Shopian.
SSP Shopian, they said, constituted five different police teams who immediately swung into action and at least 25 persons were detained for questioning.
“Finally girls were recovered and the accused was arrested from Srinagar,” they said. (GNS)
3 J&K BN NCC conducting NCC camp at Boniyar Uri in north Kashmir

Boniyar: While National Cadet Corps (NCC) activities have been on the increase to impart training to Cadets in North Kashmir after the successful camps in Uri and Baramulla in the recent past, another National Cadet Corps Annual Training Camp (ATC) is being org by 3 J&K Bn NCC Baramulla from 10 to 16 Mar 2021 in Army Camp location in Boniyar under the aegis of NCC Group Headquarter Srinagar and NCC Directorate Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.
A statement issued here said that NCC training camp is being held in Boniyar area after almost a decade as last camp was held in 2009 and security and administrative assistance has been provided by the local army formation of Baramulla and Uri.
In this camp a total of 110 Cadets shall take part, these Cadets are from schools and colleges of Baramulla, Uri, Handwara, Tangmarg, Tangdhar, Kupwara, Lolab, Bandipora, Pattan, Sopore and Boniyar. After the training at the camp Cadets shall be then eligible to attend ‘B’ & ‘C’ certificate examination to be held later in the month, the statement informed.
The camp commenced with conduct of Rapid Corona Test of the entire cadets and staff conducting the camp by team of Block Medical Officers Boniyar.
The camp commandant Col Ravinder Singh welcomed and briefed the cadets on the schedule of training and the mode of conduct during the camp. He laid emphasis on preventive measures like maintaining social distance, wearing masks and washing of hand regularly. Commandant laid emphasis on positive thinking, self learning, acquiring general awareness, and social service and community development activities.
The cadets will be undergo basic training like Physical Training, Drill, Weapon Training, Firing, Map Reading and grooming to instill confidence. To commemorate the successful completion of 50 years of 1971 ops, activities like, Debate, Painting and show casing of Movie is planned.
Decorated Army Officers and special speakers shall be addressing the Cadets during the course of training. The Cadets shall be exposed to conduct of Social Services and Community development programme like Tree Plantation and Swatch Bharat Abhiyan. A visit to NHPC at Boniyar is planned for these cadets during the camp. Visit by Senior army officers of the Gp Headquarter NCC Srinagar and Army formation at Baramulla is also scheduled to inspire the cadets.
There was enthusiasm and smiles on the faces of the cadets. The cadets expressed their happiness in sustained conduct of regular NCC training in the home town of North Kashmir and appreciated the endeavors taken by NCC.
Two militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit were killed in an overnight encounter at Kanidpora area of Bejbhera in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thrusday.
Official sources told GNS, that two militants were killed in an encounter, however identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained.
On Wednesday operation was suspended due to darkness to avoid any collateral damage and was resumed today with the first light of the day.
Reports yesterday reaching GNS that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Kandipora.
As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.(GNS)
Over 4,400 URLs from Facebook and Twitter were blocked by the government in 2020 under Section 69A of the IT Act, Parliament was informed on Wednesday.
Minister of State for Electronics and IT Sanjay Dhotre said Section 69A of the IT Act, 2000 empowers the government to block any information generated, transmitted, received, stored or hosted in any computer resource in the interest of sovereignty and security of the country, friendly relations with foreign states, public order or for preventing incitement to the commission of any cognizable offence related to these.
“Blocking is done as per the process specified in the IT (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking for Access of Information By Public) Rules, 2009 notified under this section,” he said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
Dhotre said there are adequate safeguards and checks-and-balances prescribed in these rules in the form of an Inter-Ministerial Committee having members as a joint secretary or equivalent to examine blocking requests and to make its recommendation.
He stated that 1,717 URLs from Facebook and 2,731 URLs from Twitter were blocked in 2020.
While 2,049 Facebook URLs and 1,041 Twitter URLs were blocked in 2019, 155 Facebook URLs and 224 Twitter URLs were blocked in 2018.
In response to another question, the minister said a total of 305 cases of cybercrime against children were registered in the year 2019.
“As per the data reported and maintained by National Crime Records Bureau, Ministry of Home Affairs (NCRB, MHA), a total of 88, 232 and 305 cases of cybercrime against children were registered in the year 2017, 2018 and 2019, respectively,” he said.
Dhotre said Section 67B of the IT Act, 2000 provides stringent punishment for publishing, browsing or transmitting child pornography in electronic form.
The intermediary guidelines recently announced have various provisions including intermediaries (like Facebook, Google and Twitter) being mandated to inform their users not to host, display, upload, modify or publish any information that is obscene, pornographic, paedophilic or harms minors in any way.
In another response, Dhotre said a total of 45 cases were registered for cyberstalking/bullying, under Section 354D of the Indian Penal Code, under cybercrimes against children in 2019.
“As per the data maintained by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Ministry of Home Affairs, a total of 7,40 and 45 cases were registered for cyberstalking/bullying, under section 354D of Indian Penal Code, under cybercrimes against children during the years 2017, 2018 and 2019, respectively,” he said. General Retired Syed Atta Hasnain, Member National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India, inaugurated a daylong workshop on Incident Response System here at Srinagar on Wednesday.
A statement issued in this regard to GNS reads that the workshop was also attended by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Pandurang K Pole besides by Director SKIMS Soura, Deputy Commissioners, Chief Engineers various Heads of Departments including Director Disaster Management, Director School Education, Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Senior Superintendentt of Police Traffic, SP Headquarter Srinagar and senior officers from Districts.
General Hasnain, as per the statement, said that the purpose of holding this workshop on Incident Response System or IRS, was to sensitise the officers, so that their response in any disaster can be better and professional even as he dwelt on his personal experiences when he was earlier posted as Corps Commander of 15 Corp.
He appreciated the officers of J&K for handling disasters in a professional manner, the statement reads.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir gave a detailed resume of the initiatives taken by the Divisional and District Administration in handling various types of disasters, with focus on earthquake preparedness measures, the statement reads.
On the occasion, Aamir Ali, Director DM and Nodal Officer SEOC gave details of the mitigation measures taken by various departments in J&K.
General Hooda shared his experiences of having handled the Earthquake of 2005, when he was the Brigade Commander in Uri even as Dr. Babita from National Seismic Centre Delhi explained about the seismicity of J&K and its vulnerability.
Brig Kuldip Singh Senior Consultant NDMA, explained the functioning of the IRS. Bilquees Dar Consultant Disaster Management highlighted the salient features of the State Disaster Management Plan and emphasized on mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction in all developmental programmes.

Police and government forces have suspended operation due to darkness in Bijbhera area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district where authorities snapped internet on Wednesday.
Reports reaching GNS said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 3RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Kandipora area of Bijbhera amid specific information about the presence of at least two militants.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off a gunfight which was suspended due to darkness late night.
The officials said that all exits points have been sealed and lights installed to prevent militants from escaping as they have turned down the offer to surrender.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar confirmed to GNS that the operation has been suspended and would be resumed tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, local reports said that mobile internet services have been snapped in the entire district. (GNS)

Salary will be held until they will not resume duties and the stern against will be taken against the employees especially of education department .He also told that those teachers who are in Bandipora will be sent to Gurez through air sorties after weather improves,” he told SNS Kashmir.
Srinagar, Mar 10: Prof Tariq Ahmad Chishti from Kashmir University’s Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) Wednesday took over as the varsity’s new Dean of the School of Open Learning.
Professor Chishti, who is presently also serving as Director DDE, has done his PhD in Mathematics from Aligarh Muslim University and authored a number of books including Solid Geometry published by the University Press, Orient Longman Blackswan. He is a member of American Mathematical Society, Indian Mathematical Society and Ramanujan Mathematical Society.
Prof Chishti has presented research papers and contributed to academic discussions and talks in top universities of the USA, UK (Glasgow), Germany, Hungary, China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and many others. His research papers have been published in international journals of mathematics and distance education while he has completed a number of research projects in these fields.
As DDE Director, Prof Chishti has focused on enhancing Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) through distance mode, while making interventions to make the distance education system more attractive and in sync with the evolving paradigms of open learning.
