Peer Mansoor resigns from PDP’s basic membership

 Senior Peoples Democratic Party leader and party’s former general secretary Mansoor Hussain Sohrawardhy on Tuesday announced his formal resignation from PDP’s basic membership, citing “strong political and personal reasons” to bid adieu to the party of which he was a founding member.

According to news agency-kashmir news service, Mansoor who won the 2008 state assembly elections from Shangus constituency was one of the trusted lieutenants of the PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.  Known for his political acumen and astuteness, Mansoor had a meteoric rise within the party circles within a short period, making him one of its most veteran voices.

He served the party as Mehbooba Mufti’s political advisor and was one of her staunch supporters within the PDP.

On Tuesday, Mansoor shot a detailed resignation letter to the PDP President, stating that it had been a great learning experience for him and that he will remain forever indebted for her support and guidance. “However, at this stage of life due to strong political and personal reasons I am unable to continue my association with the Party.  Please accept my resignation from the basic membership of the party,” reads the resignation letter.  

“It is a very painful moment for me to say goodbye to the institution that made me what I am today. But then I am sure that the experiences gained here will forever stay with me and I will always continue to be your well-wisher. My best wishes are always there for your future journey,” Mansoor concluded in the farewell note.(KNS)

Seizure of assets used for terrorism; PHQ accords sanctions in 46 cases under ULA (P) Act

61 vehicles, 05 houses, 06 shops, land & cash, cheque seized

Jammu and Kashmir Police Headquarters has accorded permission in 46 cases for seizure/attachment of various moveable and immovable assets of individuals or associations to restrict the terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir Police alongwith the other security forces and investigation agencies is fighting the challenges of the terrorism at various fronts. While the number of terrorists belonging to different terror outfits is neutralized in the sustained anti-terror operations, the handlers are using motor vehicles and the proceeds of terrorists for furthering their evil designs.

Following the due procedures of the law the Jammu and Kashmir Police has in last couple of years or so accorded sanction for seizure/attachments of four wheelers, motorcycles, cash, land houses and shops through different orders to ensure that the terror activities are under check.

Under this Act 61 vehicles, which include 02 trucks/trailer trucks, 01 tipper, 04 Alto 800 cars, 02 Hyundai Creta, 01 Maruti Echo, 01 Baleno, 04 Santro, 01 Asta, 02 Wagon R, 01 Mahindra Quanta, 01 Auto (Tata Zip), 02 Maruti Swift, 18 Motor Cycles, 05 Scooty, 02 Auto load carrier, 03 Alto K10, 01 Maruti 800, 01 Load carrier (207), 02 Tavera, 01 Ambulance, 01 Tata Tiago, 01 Ford Figo, 02 Echo ambulance, 01 I20, and 01 Dutson. These include the Creta car belonging to Sofi Fahmeeda Associate of Assiya Andrabi. Cash of rupees 370000, cheque worth 50 thousand rupees has been also seized. Besides immovable property which has been seized includes five houses including the house of Mehmooda Begum mother-in- law of Assiya Andrabi of banned Dukhtran Milat, six shops belonging to Nazir Ahmad Wani of Pulwma in case FIR number 39/2020 under section 18, 19, 39 ULA (P) Act. and 01 Kanal, 06 marlas of land.

In 2021 so far, PHQ has accorded sanction for seizure of eleven vehicles which include six four wheelers and five two wheelers. The permission for seizure has been granted under section 25 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967.

Section 25 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 provides for the more effective prevention of certain unlawful activities of individuals and associations, and for dealing with terrorist activities, and for matters connected therewith.

Prof Shabir is KU’s new Dean of Academic Affairs

Professor Shabir Ahmad Bhat from Kashmir University’s Department of Management Studies on Tuesday took the charge of varsity’s Dean of Academic Affairs.

An order to this effect was issued by Deputy Registrar Administration (Teaching Wing).

A Harvard-trained academic, Prof Bhat has 37 years of teaching, research and administrative experience and has held important academic and administrative positions in the university, including Dean Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, Director Business School, Director Centre for Career Planning and Counseling, Director Directorate of Distance Education, and Director UGC-HRDC (at present).

Specializing in Management and Organisational Behavior, Prof Bhat has over 80 research papers, articles and book reviews to his credit.

He has authored eight books in areas of management and business studies and has edited two books titled ‘Islamic Banking and Finance’ and ‘Understanding Islamic Banking and Finance’. He has guided several PhD and M.Phil scholars while presenting his research in over 20 universities and research institutions worldwide.

Prof Bhat has attended a number of advanced courses/workshops/seminars in various universities, including Harvard, Eastern Washington University, Haaga-Helia University, Finland, National University of Taiwan, Gonzaga University, Washington, and consulted for some top companies and government organisations.

He has been on the editorial board of various reputed journals and the chief editor of the faculty journal ‘The Business Review’.

Prof Bhat has received several awards for his outstanding contributions in academics, research, and administration which include the best teacher award in the HRM, National Leadership Award, and appreciation award for Academia-Industry Interface. He has been on the Executive Board of AIMS and is currently a member of various national and international academic associations, which include NAAC, UGC, AIMS, AMA-United States of America, IMDA, AIMA, IIPA, and ICFAI.

Prof Bhat’s appointment as DAA has been hailed by academia, scholars, and the student community.(CNS)

Paldaji missing woman’s body fished out from river Jehlum

Baramulla: Body of woman who went missing on January 20 from Paldaji village of Narvaw Baramulla was fished out from river Jehlum near  Gantamulla barrage on Tuesday.
Slain woman identified as Mubeena Begum wife of Farooq Ahmad Jatal of Paldaji village of Narvaw Baramulla went missing under mysterious circumstances on January 20 this year 2021, a relative Bashir Ahmed said.
He further informed that her body was spotted near LHJP barrage at Gantamulla and fished out by Sheeri police.
She is mother of three and was mentally unsound, another relative said.
SHO Sheeri Sajad Hussain confirmed that body of the missing woman has been found in river and identified by family.”Body has sent for autopsy to GMC Baramulla and later handed over to family for burial,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Mohammad Aijaz Asad accompanied by SSP Baramulla Abdul Quyoom and other field officers today visited several border/LoC habitations of Uri where he took stock of developmental and infrastructural scenario along the line of control.
At the outset, the DC inspected the under construction community bunkers at Silikote panchayat halqa wherein he directed Xen PWD to ramp up the pace of work so that they are completed as early as possible. He also took the first hand appraisal of various related necessities during which the DC emphasized to remove all bottlenecks, if any well within a time bound manner. It was informed that 44 bunkers have been alloted for Uri in which several bunkers have been completed whereas work on others are at different stages of completion.

During his tour of Border habitations various public delegations put their demand for construction of Border bunkers in Panchayats near zero line. SDM Uri made an on spot briefing at identified sites for construction of more Border bunkers. Deputy commissioner finalised the sites and told that the list of same shall be submitted to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir upon whose instructions the sites have been surveyed.

Meanwhile, various delegations called on DC and appraised him of their issues and grievances pertaining to overall welfare and development of border area. A delegation of Municipal Committee Uri, headed by its president Bharat Sharma demanded the construction of individual bunkers so that precious human lives are secured during exigencies. He also demanded the uninterrupted drinking water supply for Uri, parking facility besides extending other demands of vital public significance.

The DC gave a patient hearing of all the issues and demands and assured that their genuine grievances shall be taken for their immediate redressel. He said that administration is committed to develop basic infrastructure in border areas so that the people living in these areas may not face any difficulty in their daily lives.

Kupwara, Feb 16 : The formers chief minister and president People’s Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday said that they are not talking about the restoration of statehood but all they want is to restore the status of Jammu and Kashmir which it had before August 05, 2019.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a party function at Kupwara, Mehbooba Mufti said that the Kashmir issue should be resolved by initiating dialogue with Pakistan and the people of Jammu and Kashmir as there has been lot of bloodshed due to the contentious Kashmir issue.

According to KNS Correspondent, She said that they were not talking about the restoration of statehood but about the status of Jammu and Kashmir which it had before August 05, 2019 and peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue.

She also demanded the release of all Kashmiri people including political leaders who are languishing in various jails in and outside Jammu and Kashmir.

Mehbooba also criticized the BJP led government for anti-people policies, statin that the government is suppressing all those voice which raise concern about the policies of the government.

“If anybody is raising voice against them that voice is suppressed and recently everybody watched how they arrested a 21-year-old girl for raising her voice in favour of the farmers who are protesting against newly framed farm laws,” she said.

Mehbooba said that the voices are not being silenced in Kashmir only but everywhere in the country however, more harsh measures are being taken in Kashmir.

On being asked about the future of PAGD, she said that the alliance is talking about the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and people of Jammu and Kashmir want this alliance to work and it will continue to work till people want it to work. (KNS)

Jammu and Kashmir EJAC an amalgam of about unions / associations of employees of different govt. / public sector units is the biggest and sole representative platform of employees of UT of Jammu and Kashmir . This was stated in a crowded press conference at Jammu which was addressed by senior trade union leader and president EJAC Mr. Mohd Rafique Rather flanked by vice president EJAC Haji Bashir and provincial president EJAC Wajahat Duranie .

He said that since EJAC leadership met with Hon’ble Advisor Mr. Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar and Hon’ble Advisor Mr. Baseer Ahmad Khan and apprised them of the sufferings of these employees and urged for their regularization.
    Mr Rather expressed dismay over the recent orders / circulars issued by the govt . which are in public domain regarding article 226 (A) by which govt is collecting data of the employees falling under 22 -48 years . He said that such orders have created chaos and confusion in the minds of employees fraternity and they feel insecure and harassed. Rather laid stress on removing such confusions which have added to the anxiety of govt. employees who are already working in extremely adverse working conditions. He said that employees of Jammu and Kashmir have performed extremely well during last thirty years and in particular in last two years during COVID-19 and it was their contribution only which kept the pandemic confined and didn’t allow it to spread. He further added that the efforts were acknowledged by the administration and even by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor.

    Mr Rafique Rather said that EJAC has always been fighting for the rights of employees and will continue to struggle democratically for the rights of employees and won’t accept any unjustified order which snatches the livelihood of innocent employees which will leave them to starvation. He urged upon Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Hon’ble Advisors and Chief Secretary to look into the issue so that the frightened employees feel a sigh of relief. He expressed hope that the employees are encouraged for their efforts they have put in all these years instead of harassing them on one pretext or the other.

Vehicle loaded with illicit timber seized in Rafiabad

BARAMULLA, FEBRUARY 16 :

A team of forest officials from Baramulla Forest Division on Tuesday seized Tata mobile vehicle carrying illicit timber at Tragpora area of Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. 

Divisional Forest Officer, Pervaiz Wani told SNS KASHMIR that they received specific information about the movement of illicit forest produce and laid nakka at Tragpora. 

“Early morning, one Tata Load carrier vehicle bearing registration number JK05A 2267 loaded with illicit Deodar timber was intercepted. The driver of the vehicle fled from the spot and the vehicle was seized by forest officials. The vehicle was searched and was found loaded with deodar timber 18 No.s=71.85 cft without valid documents,” he said. 

He said that as per preliminary investigations conducted, it has emerged the vehicle was loaded at Patoosa village by one person namely Ashiq Hussain. 

The forest department has taken up the matter with Police authorities for further investigations into the matter.

Bandipora incident: Mehbooba Mufti seeks impartial probe, Police say matter under investigation

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday alleged that a Bandipora family is being pressurized to withdraw an FIR against 3 army soldiers who according to Mehbooba Mufti tried to abduct and molest a 9 year old girl.

Mehbooba Mufti took to twitter and stated that: “Locals in Bandipora have alleged that 3 army men tried to abduct & molest a 9 year old girl. Her family is now being pressurised to withdraw the FIR. Its a complete travesty of justice & an impartial probe must be set up immediately so that they are given the harshest punishment.”

As reported earlier, the alleged incident had occurred in Chewa area of Safapora.

A top police official told News Agency Kashmir News Trust that matter is under investigation and arrests have already been made. “The charges about the ‘attempt to kidnapping’ are being investigated and there is no question of pressurizing anyone,” he said. (KNT)

NC MP’s son booked under ULA for delivering ‘hate speech’ during DDC election campaign in Bandipora

BANDIPORA, FEBRUARY 16:

National conference leader Hilal Akbar Lone was Tuesday booked the under Unlawful Activities Act (ULA) for delivering a ‘hate speech during a public rally in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

An official told the news KNO, that Hilal Lone who is also the elder son of member Parliament from north Kashmir and senior National Conference leader, Mohammad Akbar Lone was released yesterday from MLA hostel, following which he was arrested by Hajin Police.

He said that Hilal was booked under FIR number 02/2021 under sections 153 A/ 188/ 505 IPC and 13 of the Unlawful Activities Act, which was already registered at Police Station Hajin.

The official said that Hilal had delivered a hate speech while addressing a public rally during DDC election campaign in Hajin last year.

Earlier, in Last December Hilal was detained in Sumbal and was shifted by police to MLA hostel on December 25 last year. The official said that Hilal is presently detained at police station Hajin—KNO
