PAGD wins DDC chairperson polls in Bandipora

BANDIPORA, FEBRUARY 13 :

People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Saturday bagged the chairperson and vice-chairperson posts of the District Development Council (DDC) Bandipora in north Kashmir.

Official sources told GNS that PAGD candidate Abdul Gani Bjhat was elected as chairperson while Kounser Shafeeq as Vice-Chairperson.

They said that Bhat from National Conference got seven votes against six votes polled by the nearest rival candidate—Firdous Akhtar for the post of chairperson. Similarly, they said, Kounser Shafeeq of PDP polled 8 votes and runner up candidate, Tahir Gani, got five votes.

NC and PDP are key constituents of the PAGD, an amalgam of six political parties seeking restoration of the special Constitutional status of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. (GNS)

2 Family Members Including Minor Die Of ‘Suffocation’ in SoafShali Kokernag

Two persons of a family were found dead on Saturday morning purportedly due to ‘suffocation’ in SoafShali village in Kokernag of South-Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

As Per Locals two members of a family identified as Ishrat Jan Wife of Shabir Ahmad Nahar & Her Son Musaib were found dead at their home early this morning.

They were Shifted to Hospital where Doctors declared both brought dead.

Meanwhile a police official confirming the incident & said that they are ascertaining the cause of death, “although it seems that the trio has died of suffocation.

Top TRF militant ‘involved’ in 3 BJP workers killing in Kulgam last year arrested from Samba: IGP Kashmir

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 13 :

Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a top TRF militant from Samba district of Jammu who was allegedly involved in the killing of three BJP workers and a policeman in Kulgam district of South Kashmir last year.

Inspector-General of Police, Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar told GNS that a team of Police from Anantnag arrested the militant, Zahoor Ahmad Rather alias Sahil alias Khalid of TRF from Samba on the intervening night of February 12 and 13. He said that Zahoor Ahmad Rather was hiding in Samba and was arrested following specific information by Anantnag police.

The Resistance Front (TRF) is an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit, the IGP maintained.

“He was involved in the killing of three BJP workers in Kulgam last year and one policeman at Furra in the South Kashmir district,” the top Kashmir police officer said, adding, ” Zahoor is being brought to Kashmir for further investigations.

The three Bharatiya Janata Party functionaries, Fida Hussain Yatoo, Umer Rashid Beigh and Umer Ramzan Hajam, were killed in YK Pora locality of Kulgam on October 29 last year. (GNS)

UDHAMPUR, FEBRUARY 12:

Public service and sacrifice is the proud legacy of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The feeling that a common man should feel safe and secure and live his life without any fear is in the DNA of JKP.

Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha made these remarks during his address at the Attestation cum Passing-Out-Parade of Deputy Superintendents of Police (Dy.SsP) (Prob.), 13th Batch and Probationary Sub-Inspectors (PSIs), 24th Batch at SKPA Udhampur.

A total of three DySsPs (Prob.) and 583 PSIs, including 553 males and 30 females completed their rigorous training today at SKPA. Oath was administered to the passing out cadets for performing their duties with dedication and honesty.

At the outset, the Lt Governor took the Rashtriya Salute and inspected the Parade, besides taking the salute at an impressive March Past by Men and Women contingents.

While speaking on the occasion, the Lt Governor congratulated the passing out cadets, who have successfully completed their training, asked them to remember what they have been taught during their training days by the instructors, and perform their duties with sincerity and dedication after moving out from the SKPA, Udhampur.

Now, you have become active members of the police force, and it is your primary role to ensure the law and order in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. “Along with eradicating terrorism from J&K, you are entrusted with the responsibility of earning the trust of common people. Honesty, integrity, hardwork, dedication will help you in discharging your duties efficiently”, the Lt Governor added.

The Lt Governor appreciated the passing out cadets for discharging COVID-19 protocol duties, besides great work in ensuring smooth conduct of DDC and Panchayat elections during their training period.



Lauding the JKP personnel for doing commendable job in ensuring safe and secure environment for the people of J&K, the Lt Governor observed that securing National Unity & Integrity through counter insurgency operations; maintaining peace, law and order is not merely a duty but a strong resolve for Jammu and Kashmir Police Personnel. The J&K Government is committed to supporting the Jammu and Kashmir Police in each and every possible way, he added.

Many times, security experts talk about “Last Man at the Post”. They are those officers and constables of the police who are posted at the frontline for maintaining law and order, their work is not just limited to controlling crime of an area, but also to share good and difficult times with the people, the Lt Governor observed.

“Police is required everywhere, in quarrels of neighbours, at schools, markets, to open roads of the city, in Villages, during festivals, and in counter insurgency. Police is always there to serve people facing traditional as well as modern challenges. Police is there to protect the harmony in the society along with securing unity and integrity of the nation. I salute your passion and love for the motherland”, said the Lt Governor.

The Lt Governor asked the young officers of Jammu & Kashmir Police that effectively tackling new challenges like Cyber Crime and Radicalization would prove to be a benchmark of your strength and ability.

Speaking on the educational background of the young officers who were part of the passing out parade today, the Lt Governor observed that many candidates are Post graduate in Computer applications, more than 50 are engineers and more than 60 B-Tech are graduates and some are having Law degrees. It itself shows the high level of capability in our Police force for facing challenging circumstances, he added.

From arms training, counter Insurgency tactics to drug trafficking and Cyber crimes, rigorous training makes the Jammu Kashmir Police an organic entity to adopt innovative methods to fight new crimes, ensure law &order and also protect the heart and soul of our beautiful society, the Lt Governor maintained.

Terming Cybercrime as a big threat in recent times, the Lt Governor said that criminal activities in the virtual world is a new generation warfare which needs effective monitoring and quick response.

Social media is being used to generate social conflict, the only purpose of which is spreading sophisticated propaganda and disrupting peace, he added.

Tackling such organized apparatus and network is very crucial for peaceful social order. I believe that to fight this gang of global networks, our young officers with Communication and Technology background will be a multiplier force, observed the Lt Governor.



Challenges will keep changing with time. From basic policing to dark web crime, from regular crimes to forensics, the area of your work will slowly expand. The Biggest deterrent to crime is effective investigation and conviction of criminals. The way in which investigation is done in Jammu and Kashmir is commendable, the Lt Governor said.

During his address, Sh. Dilbag Singh, DGP extended his best wishes to all the newly pass-out trainees and expressed confidence that the recruits would live up to the expectations of the nation.

He impressed upon them to work with honesty and dedication to come up to the expectations of people and the police organization. He added that it is a proud day for all those to get into the portals of the service, which they have joined and also lauded the efforts put in by Director SKPA and his team of dedicated instructors for molding and shaping the passing out trainees.

Dr. S.D Singh, Director, SKPA, in his welcome address, gave the details of various components of training imparted to the passing out trainee officers. He congratulated the trainee officers on their successful completion of the tough training and wished them a bright service career in their field work.

The primary purpose of the Police Academy is to prepare leaders who will lead and command the force with courage, dedication and strong sense of service to the people, he added.

Later, the Lt Governor awarded the achievers who excelled during their training.

PSI, Rakshit Sharma emerged as the best all-rounder. Marching Brass and Pipe drum bands received huge applause from the audience.

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 12:

An earthquake of magnitudee 6.3 on the Richter scale occurred on Friday night in Jammu and Kashmir, triggering panic among the people who rushed outside their homes and called their loved ones to enquire about their wellbeing.

The high-intensity earthquake occurred 22:34:40IST. The earthquake had a depth of ten kilometres and the epicentre was Tajikistan at latitude 31.57 degrees north and longitude 75.09 degrees east, a meteorological department official told.

There are reports from defrent areas that some houses got damaged in this earthquake which caused panic among the people who rushed out of their houses.

UPDATE

National Center for Seismology (NCFS) has reviewed its earlier update about Earthquake and said the epicenter of the quake was Tajikistan not Amritsar. The intensity was 6.3 on the richter scale, as per NCFS.

J&K Police (G), J&K Accounts (G) Service trainee officers complete their Joint Foundation Course from J&K IMPA&RD, relieved for further trainingfter the completion of the Joint Foundation Course, Phase-I at J&K IMPA&RD, the 29 trainee Officers of J&K Police (G) Service and 12 trainee Officers of J&K Accounts (G) Service were relieved and directed to report to the Director General of Police (DGP), J&K and Director General, Accounts & Treasuries, J&K respectively for their further training.

The remaining 28 trainee officers of Junior Scale of J&K Administrative (G) Service will continue their training at the Jammu Campus of J&K IMPA&RD.

Earlier, in view of the COVID19 Pandemic & consequent health Safety concerns, the 69 officers who were selected for the Joint Foundation Course were divided into three manageable groups with one group of 22 trainee officers receiving training at IMPARD campus Srinagar and the other two groups of 23 and 24 officers at IMPARD campus Jammu.

During the foundation course, the trainee officers were made familiar with various aspects of public administration including managing human and material resources and all round personality development with emphasis on developing leadership capabilities.

The Course also covered subjects like public administration, Management and Behavioural Sciences, Constitution and Information Technology, issues and challenges in Government, new interventions in government among others. The trainee officers were also exposed to field visits, case studies, presentations and debates besides interactions with many serving and retired officers from the civil and police administration so that trainee officers could derive benefit out of their rich administrative experiences.

Baramulla authorities fine erring traders Rs 23,800 during Intensified Market-Checking

To ensure that only products of the best quality are sold in Baramulla’s markets, the district authorities today intensified their market-checking drive, fining erring traders Rs 23,800.

The drive was launched on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad. It’s part of commitment of District Administration towards ensuring transparent and hassle free public services.

During today’s inspection drive, about 2 quintal rotten and contaminated vegetables were destroyed by a team comprising officials from Revenue, Police, Municipality, Food, and other departments concerned. The team has also removed some encroachments from footpaths so that commuters do not face any inconvenience. Moreover, several petrol pumps were inspected across the district to see the dealers were providing fuel in the right quantity to their customers.

It is worth mentioning that erring traders were fined Rs 10,900 in Gulmarg sub-division, Rs 6,100 in Uri sub-division, Rs 4,050 in Sopore, Rs 1,900 in Pattan, and Rs 850 in Baramulla.

Earlier, the Legal Metrology Department had seized counterfeit Colgate and Sensodyne toothpaste sold in local markets. The counterfeit products were packaged identically to the branded ones.

The Deputy Commissioner has urged upon all traders and shopkeepers to abide by the rules and regulations. He said no violation of the rules would be tolerated in the larger public interest. He added that the administration is committed to providing smooth, clean and hassle-free public services to the people.

The accused was arrested during routine naka checking at Children’s park Boniyar.
Accordingly,case FIR NO.08/2021 U/S 08/22 NDPS Act has been registered in police station Boniyar and Investigation taken up.

Schools to reopen on March 01 in Kashmir: Director school education

Director School Education Kashmir, (DESK), Mohmammed Youns Malik, told news agency KNS hat there is no confusion as they have already issued the order that all schools will be reopened on March 1st after the gap of eight months. 

Pertinently, the winter vacation in Kashmir schools was announced on December 10 and the schools are now set to open on March 1.
 
The director school of education said that before reopening of the schools there will be sanitization and cleaning of schools 5 days before.

“We have issued the guidelines to the school heads to ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of class rooms,” he added. (KNS)

This has reference to the news item which has appeared in section of the local Print & Electronic Media and Social Media, wherein a communication from District Administration, Baramulla has been quoted for cancellation of Pre Booking accommodation at Gulmarg in view of the upcoming Khelo India Games being organized between February 25 and March 2, 2021.

It is clarified that the Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir in consultation with stakeholders including District Administration Baramulla, J&K Sports Council and Hoteliers Club, Gulmarg had deliberated upon the issue in series of meetings wherein a mutually agreed formula was devised to ensure that the requisite accommodation is made available for the Khelo India participants and others without disturbing the tourists facilities.

It has been the consistent endevour of the Tourism Department to ensure that while we promote tourism through different mediums including holding of mega sports events like Khelo India, at the same time the Department is committed to ensure that the tourists are provided hassle free facilities and also best hospitality after taking on board all the stakeholders like hoteliers, travel agents and others.
