J&K’s Covid-19 Tally Up By 309 Cases, 4 Deaths Reported In Highest Single-Day Jump This Year

SRINAGAR,, MARCH 28 :

Jammu and Kashmir reported 309 fresh covid-19 cases, the most in a day so far this year, to take the overall tally of the infections to 129993, officials said on Sunday. Also, four deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, highest so far this year, taking the fatality count 1989—735 in Jammu and 1254 in Kashmir.

While it is for the first time that the single day cases breached 300-mark in a single day, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed more than 100 cases every day in last 13 consecutive days. In all, 2259 cases were added to the tally in these thirteen days, they said.

Among the fresh cases, they said, 246 were reported in Kashmir Valley and 63 in Jammu division.

Giving the district wise details, they said, Srinagar reported 123 cases, Baramulla 46, Budgam 22, Pulwama 12, Kupwara 27, Anantnag 7, Bandipora 2, Ganderbal 3, Kulgam 3, Shopian 1, Jammu 49, Udhampur 2, Rajouri 0, Doda 0, Kathua 5, Samba 0, Kishtwar 0, Poonch 2, Ramban 5, and Reasi 0.

Regarding the deaths, they said, three were reported from Jammu and one from Kashmir.

Moreover, they said, there are 117 more covid-19 patients who recovered in the last 24 hours—96 from Kashmir and 21 from Jammu. (GNS)

Due to rise in Covid-19 cases, Shab-e-Baraat congregation canceled at Historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar: Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid

The Shab-e-Baraat congregation, scheduled to be held at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar on March 29, the night of the 15 Sha’ban-ul-Muazzam after Isha prayers, has been cancelled in view of the fresh wave of Covid-19, the Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar announced on Saturday .

The statement further stated that, Besides due to Mirwaiz e Kashmir’s continued house detention, since August 2019, Majlis waz o tableeg led by him cannot take place

Anjuman in a statement said that the Shab-e-Baraat congregation, stands cancelled in view of the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and medical experts in wake of the resurgence of Covid-19 cases .

Anjuman has appealed to people to religiously follow the Covid-19 guidelines and pray at their individual level for refuge from the deadly virus.

Anjuman said it will soon announce a decision regarding the Taraweeh prayers in Jama Masjid in the coming month of Ramadan, reads the statement.

Militants attack security forces in Anantnag, 02 Civilians suffer injuries

Suspected militants hurled a grenade on security forces in Sangam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday.

Official sources told GNS that militants lobbed Grenade towards 96BN of CRPF Bunker in Sangam Chowk. However the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the road. In this incident two civilians recieved minor injuries.

Meanwhile whole area has been cordoned off to nab the fleeing militants, they said.(GNS)

HANDWARA 28 MARCH 2021:

A police party of Police Post Langate headed by Incharge Police Post Sub Inspector Shahid Nazir raided different locations of Nalla Mawar and seized 03 Vehicles loaded with illegal clay and sand extracted from Nalla Mawar. Two drivers of said vehicles have also been arrested for voilation of Govt. Orders and one escaped from the spot who will be arrested soon.

The arrested persons have been identified as
1.Naseer Ahmad Mir S/o Ab Ahad R/O Drangbal Baramulla and;

  1. Amir Ahmad Bhat S/O Ab Rahim R/o Aadipora Sopore.

In this regard, case FIR number 59/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation has been initiated.

Handwara police has asked the people of area not to indulge into illegal extraction of clay and sand from any Nalla as the same is violation of Government laws & orders and anyone found in commission of such activities will be dealt under law.

Baramulla, March 28: While Baramulla police on Sunday said that it would be available to public 24×7 , senior police officers led by newly joined SSP Baramulla on Sunday undertook an extensive tour of north Kashmir’s Baramulla town to reach out to people for ascertaining  and assessing  the problems faced  public and explore options to deliver better policing services to the people. 

“Vulnerabilities of traffic jamming, congestion, hawkers, security sensitivities etc were analysed and officers were instructed to formulate plans in partnership with stakeholders to ensure better facilities to the people,” a senior police officer said. 

“Various interactions would be undertaken shortly with various public representatives, stakeholders, respectable persons and associations to take their views on board and formulate a joint consultative plan of action to redress demands of the public,” the officer added.

Baramulla: Mother of senior journalist Zagar Gulzar passed away at Bharampora Rafaibabad after brief illness on Sunday.

North Kashmir Journalist Association and Baramulla Working Journalist Association (BWJA) have express condolence and solidarity with its former President Zargar Gulzar besides extended sympathies with the bereaved family.

A delegation of journalists led by Chairman BWJA Karamat Qayoom flanked by former president BWJA Sajad Hussain reached Bahrampora Rafiabad and participated in the funeral prayers. On behalf of BWJA and NKJA, senior journalist Karamat Qayoom to express condolence and solidarity with Zargar Gulzar besides extended sympathies with the bereaved family.

Large number of people from cross section of society participated in funeral prayers held at 9:30 am on Sunday. Tourist dies of cardiac arrest in Srinagar

A tourist from Gujrat died after suffering a massive cardiac arrest in Srinagar on Sunday.

Official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Waheeda wife of Khalid Hussain, a resident of Jawahar Bazar Gujrat suffered massive cardiac arrest in a guest house at Nowpora area of Khanyari n Srinagar, where she was staying with her family.

They said that she was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where she was declared dead on arrival.

They said that after completion of legal formalities, the body of the deceased would be handed back to her family—(KNO)

RTO Kashmir Makes J&K Registration Mandatory for Non-J&K Purchased Vehicles

Regional Transport Office for Kashmir has asked the non-registered vehicle owners in Kashmir to get any such vehicles registered to local ARTOs to avoid seizure.

A notification issued in this regard, a copy of which lies with GNS, reads that “Vehicles purchased outside J&K with non-J&K registration numbers and not registered with local ARTO offices are being seized.”

Asking the owners to avoid seizure of their vehicles, the notification maintains that “If you own any such vehicle, get it transferred and registered with local ARTO immediately to avoid seizure.”

Meanwhile when contacted RTO Kashmir Ikramullah Tak told GNS that “All such vehicles are being directed to get their registrations done as soon as possible.” (GNS)

Cop shot dead by his colleague in Udhampur

A cop was shot dead by his colleague during duty hours in Jakhani Naka area of Udhampur district on Sunday, official said here.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a selection grade constable was injured after he was shot at by his colleague, a special police officer (SPO) during duty hours in Jakhani Naka.

He said that the injured cop was shifted to hospital in the vicinity and was later referred to an army hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The official said that investigation into the matter has been initiated—(KNO)
