Pulwama encounter: Girl among two civilians injured in clashes

Two civilians including a girl were injured during the clashes near encounter site in Kakapora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.

Official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that two civilians including a girl were injured in clashes near encounter site in Kakapora area.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Pampore, Dr. Gulzar Ahmad said that they received two injured persons both from Samboora at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Pampore, who were shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment

He identified them as Ishrat Jan (25), daughter of Abdul Aziz Dar of Samboora Pulwama who has bullet injury in right buttock and Ghulam Nabi Dar (42), son of Ali Muhammad Dar of Samboora Pulwama, who has multiple pellet injuries.

Pertinently, encounter is underway in Ghat Mohalla Kakapora—(KNO)

Militants killed in Pulwama were involved in attack on BJP leader’s house yesterday: IGP Kashmir

Inspector General of police Vijay Kumar on Friday said that militants involved in yesterday’s attack on BJP leader in which one policeman was killed were among the slain during a gunfight at Kakapora area in Pulwama district.

“Police’s weapon, snatched by the militants, was also recovered”, IGP told GNS.”

IGP congratulated Police and Security Forces for killing militants responsible for yesterday’s ‘cowardly’ attack in less than 24 hours.

Three militants were killed in the gunfight at Kakapora earlier in the day, as per the police.

A policeman, Rameez Raja was killed in the militant attack at the residence of a BJP leader in Aribagh in Nowgam area of Srinagar on Thursday afternoon. The militants had also decamped with a rifle of the policeman who was posted on guard duties at the BJP leader Anwar Khan. The BJP leader was not at his residence, when the militants carried out the attack.

In a statement issued on Thursday evening, police said that preliminary investigation revealed that the attack at the residential guard of BJP leader was carried out by a group of four militants and on the analysis of CCTV footage it came to fore that a burka-clad militant in woman tone asked the sentry on duty to open the door. “The moment Sentry opened door, two other (militants) started firing indiscriminately at him while the third militant snatched his rifle.”

In this incident, police said, Constable Rameez Raja sustained grievous gunshot injuries and was evacuated to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

“Preliminary investigation indicated that the (militants) linked with LeT are involved in the attack, two local identified as Shahid Khursheed Dar son of Khursheed Ahmad resident of Methan Chanapora and Ubaid Shafi Dar son of Mohd Shafi resident of Firdousabad Batamaloo were part of the group. However, further investigations are vigorously going on.” (GNS)

Police seize tippers, arrest trio for illegal mining

Police in Central Kashmir’s Budgam arrested trio and seized 3 tippers for illegal mining and transportation of clay.

A police spokesman said that during routine Naka, Police party of Police Post Soibugh seized 3 loaded tippers and arrested 3 persons at Wahabpora Budgam who were illegally extracting and transporting clay from government land.

The arrested trio have been identified as Umar Farooq Mir of Pathanpora, Rafiq Dar of Allapora and Jehangir Ahmad Ganie, resident of Dharmuna Budgam.

The police spokesperson said that a case vide FIR number 71/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Budgam in this regard. (KNT)

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has booked former Director Department of Information and Chairman Jamaat-e-Aitqaad International, Farooq Ahmad Renzu, in a disproportionate assets case.

The ACB has registered a case (FIR no. 03/2021 dated 23-03-2021) in a disproportionate assets case against him but surprisingly no press statement was issued by the ACB.

As per an official, the retired bureaucrat has assets worth crores of rupees disproportionate to his known sources of income.

He said that Renzu has amassed huge chunk of land including that in Dachigam locality and he has assets outside Kashmir as well. He has three houses in Srinagar worth crores of rupees.

He said that the ACB is conducting further investigations into his disproportionate assets which he has acquired during his tenure as Government servant fraudulently.

Renzu besides serving as Director Information was Deputy Commissioner Budgam and Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation. He retired few years ago…..

Three persons fall unconscious while digging well in Handwara, hospitalised

HANDWARA APRIL 02 :

Three persons including two siblings fell unconscious while digging a well in Warpora Magam area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that they were digging a well when they felt unconscious and have been rushed to district hospital Handwara for treatment.

He said that all of them are out of danger as they have been given the required medical attention and are under the observation now.

The official identified two sibling as Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh and Shabir Ahmad sheikh—sons of Mohammad Subhan Sheikh and Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh—all residents of Warpora Magam—(KNO)

Renowned urologist Dr Saleem Wani bereaved

Srinagar: Haji Abdul Gani Wani, the father of Kashmir’s renowned urologist and kidney transplant surgeon Dr Saleem Wani, passed away after a brief illness at his residence in Dana Mazaar, Srinagar.

People from various sections of the society have expressed their condolences with Dr Saleem Wani and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

In a condolence statement  Chairman Jammu Kashmir Civil Society Forum Abdul Qayoom Wani expressed grief and sorrow on the sad demise of Haji Abdul Gani wani father of renowned urologist  Dr Saleem Wani.

While expressing solidarity and sympathies with Dr. Saleem and his famil, Wani said that the deceased was a pious human being with good qualities of head and heart and was respected by one and all. Wani prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to the berieved family especially Dr Saleem and his whole family to bear this loss.

 While offering heartfelt sympathies and condolences, Prof. A.G. Ahangar said that their thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family. Biker from Haryana UP drowned to death in Uri

People stage protest demand fencing for the canal and dam

Uri: A motorcyclist from Panipat Haryana was drowned to death after his motorcycle skidded off the road and fell into a water reservoir of LJHP Dam at Chalan Boniyar in Uri area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

Witness said that a biker drowned after his motorcycle bearing number (HR26DU 1782) skidded of the road and fell into water reservoir (dam) of LJHP at Chalan Boniyar. Even as the locals tried their level best but the biker could not be rescued.

Later, the body of the bike rider identified as Kashif Khan son of Dilshad Khan of Panipat Haryana was retrieved from the dam by a team of SDRF and police.

SDPO Uri, Junaid Wali confirmed that body of the biker has been retrieved after LJHP authorities stopped water follow into the dam.

Meanwhile, people staged protest against LJHP demanding fencing of the dam as every year people get drowned into the dam.

“ In 2015 they promised to provide fence of the dam and canal so that people and animals won’t get drowned. If fencing is not provided to the dam, we will stop the functioning for powerhouse by jumping into along with families,” the protestors said.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir range Vijay Kumar Thursday said four Lashkar-e-Toiba militants including two from Srinagar carried out the attack on the guard post of the house of senior BJP leader Muhammad Anwar Khan in Aribagh, Nowgam area in which a police man got killed. He also confirmed that the militants took away a riffle as well from the spot.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the wreath laying ceremony of slain cop Rameez Raja, who was deployed at the guard post outside the resident residence of BJP leader, the IGP said: “After examining the CCTV footage, one burqa clad militant knocks the door and when the door is opened, two others fire indiscriminately and the fourth one comes and takes away the riffle.”

He said initially “we though the first one wearing burqa was a female, but after investigating the leads thoroughly, he was the male militant who had changed his voice to deceive the sentry on duty.”

The IGP said two of the four militants involved in the act have been identified as Shahid Khursheed  and Obaid Shafi. “Both belong to Lashkar-e-Toiba. The identity of two others is being ascertained who are also believed to be from Lashkar,” he said as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

The Kashmir police chief anti-militancy operations will further be intensified and those involved in the act will be “neutralized.” “We had launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Chanapora in the morning. We have been conducting the searches since January onwards but haven’t been successful in catching the militants’ active in Srinagar. We will work out on human and technical inputs further and catch them soon.”

He said that one of the militants involved in today’s incident Shahid Khursheed of Chanapora is already a categorized militant with the police.

Nowgam Attack: Cop Succumbs, Militants Flee With Rifle Also

The policeman, injured in the militant attack at the residence of a BJP leader in Aribagh in Nowgam area of Srinagar succumbed to his injuries.

The militants also decamped with a rifle of the policeman who was posted on guard duties at the BJP leader Anwar Khan.

The BJP leader was not at his residence, when the militants carried out the attack, a police officer told GNS.

“In the attack, a policeman, Ramiz Raja, was injured and he was shifted to SMHS hospital. However he succumbed to the injuries,” the police officer said. The officer also confirmed that militants fled with rifle, of the injured cop.

Police, he said, has registered a case and started investigations.

A cop was injured when militants attacked the resident of a senior BJP leader Muhammad Anwar Khan at Aribagh area of Srinagar.

Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), militants fired at the guard post outside the residence of BJP leader Khan at Aribagh, Nowgam in which a police man sustained injuries. “The alert guards fired in retaliation and repulsed the attack. The injured police man has been identified as Ramez Raja,” an official said.

He said that BJP leader is safe as the attackers fled after facing resistance from the guards. BJP’s media incharge Manzoor Bhat said that militnats attacked the house of BJP leader Anwar Khan, who is party’s district president for Baramulla and incharge Kupwara district. “In the attack, Khan is safe,” he said.

BJP’s J&K spokesman Altaf Thakur said that he spoke to Khan over phone. “Khan is safe as the attack has been foiled. We condemn such attack and pray for the recovery of the injured cop,” he said—(KNO)
