To promote mutual understanding and unity among journalists representing different print and electronic media organisations in Pattan Sub Division of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district,Media Association Pattan (MAP) on Saturday elected Rahi Nisar – Gulistan News Correspondent as the President MAP for a two year period.
MAP under the banner of Baramulla Working Journalists Association (BWJA) and North Kashmir Journalist Association-an amalgam of journalists association of north Kashmir districts- held its annual elections in which Rahi Nisar – News Correspondent Gulistan TV was declared as President, Saleem Farooq as Chairman, Latief Bhat Chief Patron, News 18 Urdu Correspondent Muneer Hussain Hurrah Vice President.
The election process and declaration of results were conducted and observed by senior journalists of north Kashmir and Chairman BWJA Haji Karamat Qayoom- Sherbeen –Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Senior Journalists Zagar Gulzar, Editor in Chief Kashmir Crown Shahid Imran besides the entire process was held under the supervision adminstrative officials.
Speaking on the ocassion, Chairman BWJA Haji Karamat Qayoom said that Journalism a noble profession and every journalist should work honestly to make the fourth estate strong and uphold its dignity.
“We will issue identity cards to members of MAP under BWJA very soon, so that officials will recognise them easily during any event,” Karamat Qayoom said. Adding that the journalists of said body will also be covered under life insurance.
SDM Pattan, SDPO Pattan, Tehsildar Pattan, Tehsildar Singhpora, Principal ITI, Traders Association President Pattan and various dignitries was present on the Occassion.

As a part of public outreach programme, Police Community Partnership Group (PCPG) meeting was facilitated by Sopore Police at Police Post Watergam while following social distancing norms and other protocols.
The meeting was chaired by In-charge PP Watergam Insp. Imtiyaz Ahmad. The meeting was attended by respectable citizens of Ladoora, Marazigund, Chatloora and Tragpora areas.
During the meeting, the participants raised various issues including drug abuse, non-availability of drinking water and electricity. The chairing officers assured the participants that their genuine grievances pertaining to police will be resolved on priority and the issues pertaining to civil administration will be taken up with the concerned departments for their early redressal.

The CBI has arrested the Deputy Director of the Jammu regional office of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 50,000 for helping lower a complainant’s penalty amount from Rs 23 lakh, officials said Saturday.
Darabara Singh, who is also in-charge Regional Director, was nabbed on a complaint of a private security firm employee and the owner who had received a notice from ESIC office for improper papers, they said.
On knowing this, the complainant and the owner, both visited the office of ESIC to meet Deputy Director.
During the meeting, the Deputy Director, ESIC, allegedly told the complainant that their papers were not proper and ESIC would impose a penalty of Rs 23.90 lakh on them and if they would pay him bribe of Rs 2 lakh, he can reduce the penalty amount, CBI Spokesperson RC Joshi said.
After negotiation, they were told to pay the bribe in four installments of Rs 50,000 each, he said.
The CBI acted on the complaint and laid a trap where Singh was caught red-handed receiving the bribe installment, Joshi said.
Searches were conducted at the premises of accused in Chandigarh, Mohali & Jammu which led to recovery of cash of Rs 7 lakh and documents related to properties, he said.(PTI)

Srinagar: Condolences continues to pour in on the sad demise of former Director Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department Abdul Rashid Bakshi who passed away on Friday.

Body of a 33-year-old man was recovered at Cherkoot area of Kupwara district on Saturday, a fortnight after he went missing from his residence, officials said.
They said the man, Javaid Ahmad Mir son of Mohammad Dilawar Mir of Izgund Khumriyal Kupwara had left his residence on January 15 but neither returned back to his home nor went to any of his relatives.
A manhunt was launched but he could not be traced until his body was found near Cherkoot, a forest area. A missing report was filed with the concerned police station on January 19.
A police officer confirmed that the body has been found. “Investigations have been launched in this regard.” (GNS)
The severe cold wave continues to grip Kashmir Valley as Srinagar recorded a low of minus 7.2°C, the weatherman said on Saturday.
A meteorological department official told GNS that the minimum temperature also hovered around far below the normal in other parts of the Valley.
The minimum temperatures have consistently remained far below normal this season. On the previous night Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded a low of minus 7.7°C, more than six degrees below normal (minus 1.0°C) for this time of the season.
On January 14, Srinagar witnessed the season’s coldest night at minus 8.4°C which was the chilliest one in more than 25 years. In 1991, Srinagar witnessed a low of minus 11.8°C while the lowest ever temperature was recorded on 31 January 1893 when the mercury had plummeted to minus 14.4 degrees Celsius.
The mercury settled at minus 12.5°C in Pahalgam against minus 12.0°C on the previous night in the world-famous health resort.
Qazigund, the gateway town of J&K, recorded a low of minus 8.8°C against minus 10.8°C on the previous night while Kokernag recorded a minimum of minus 10.9°C against minus 11.4°C on the earlier night.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 10.0°C against minus 11.5°C earlier night, the official said.
The mercury settled at minus 3.7°C in the in Kupwara against minus 3.0°C on the previous night, the official said.
Kashmir is currently under the grip of ‘Chillai-Kalan’— the 40-day harshest winter period which commenced on December 21 and ends on January 31.
The period is considered the harshest of the winter when the chances of snowfall are most frequent and maximum. So far this season there have been already at least two spells of considerable snowfall.
The cold wave, however, continues even after that in Kashmir with a 20-day-long ‘Chillai-Khurd’ (small cold) and a 10-day-long ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold).
The weatherman has forecast cloudy weather with the possibility of light snowfall at isolated places of J&K and Ladakh during January 31 and February 1. “Light to Moderate snow and rain is most likely at scattered places of J&K and Ladakh mainly during 2-3rd February,” the MeT official added. (GNS)
The Jammu Kashmir Police along with wildlife officials in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) township on Saturday morning raided a house in the Sherpora area of the township and recovered banned skins of animals.
An official told The Kashmiriyat that animal skins of Lions, Leopards, and Bear were recovered from an individual (name undisclosed) who was also taken under detention.
Providing details of the incident, the official said that the Anantnag Police headed by SHO Saddar Anantnag raided a house in Shirpora area in the wee hours of Saturday and recovered banned animal skins from a house and took the owner of the house under detention.
The Police have registered a case in this regard and started further investigation into the incident.
